      I need some brain exercise

I need some stimulation for my brain. They say reading exercises the brain as i'm sure it does but I am talking about somthing to really make my brain smoke. I am sick of routine. I am sick of reading. The only thing that I could say really tantelizes my brain in my routine life right know is chess. Chess is absolutley awesome but I need some new Ideas.

      What say you?

Hmm. I'd say try some puzzles. Or those riddles. Though I have to suggest to make sure whatever you select is intresting for you. Or else you brain will mark it as a routine.

You may try programming in C++ or java. Solving difficult geometric problems may help as well...

May I suggest Sokoban? It's that japanese puzzle game that involves pushing boxes to their correct places (everyone has played it). It's certainly hard, but it does flex the head muscle.

Develop mathematical proofs using induction. If you really want to fry you brain, develop proofs using strong induction.

I remember those days of walking out of my discrete structures class! I was usually a complete zombie for hours.

This could actually be a sorta new technique.......really working the brain.....the same as people tensing their muscles to relax in meditation......thus with the brain but using certain practises to do so..ect mathematical problems, puzzles ect...

then your mind can relax if going to sleep..which i believe may be useful for Oobe....find out ey

Thanks for the comments guys & the site Techboy!
I am not that good at math but I must say that it definitaly works the old brain. that 6x6 = 36 theory took me a week

Xisdence, I agree. I think if you were to watch Jerry springer for more than four hours in a row there would be worse side effects than crack. And just think. He one democrat of the year. Money talks and people listen.

Um... no. Since when has Jenga been brain exercise?

In sokoban you control a man and he has to push boxes to their correct positions in a warehouse. The tricky bit is that he can't pull the boxes. It's very hard.

      Google search it.

That is what I was thinking. But I did not want to offend you if you thought Jenga was mental exercise, in turn I think I have affended you anyways. It just sounded like it the way you had explained it. -Misunderstood

I read somewhere that juggling increases grey matter in parts of the brain... But I'm kind of unsure...

I heard that from several people. Including 2 who juggle just for the purpose of clearing/stimulating their minds. I don't know if it actually works myself. I guess the downside to this is that you have to learn how to juggle.

      stimulation for my brain[/b]
You're brain isn't one simple muscle that flexes/relaxes.
What part of your brain do you have in mind?
      Logical/Creative/Awareness/Sensory/Deduction... ?

      - For Logical, learn C++ (works great, and is fun)
      - For Creative, join an art class at your local library or culture center
      - For Awareness, Theres a site called 'psychic self-discovery' or somesuch that involves learning to be psychic via learning to be aware of yourself at all times. Or find something on dream yoga - they LD with this method. Juggling helps here too - it teaches you concentration of a situation.
      - Sensory, learn hobby lockpicking for touch (see lockpicking101.com). Hell - you can even learn braille. For the others, practice.
-Deduction, find mystery murder puzzles, or try learning handwriting analysis.

You get the idea though - what exactly are you trying to exercise?

      [edit]
I looked at the psychic self-discover site... can't find the bit I read previously. Maybe it was a different site.. hmm....

You know a mental process called image streaming? It's introduced by Win Wenger to exercise your sense of imagination to intertwine with language. Search "image streaming" anywhere.

When I do this, I don't get brain-fried, but I end up feeling smarter after it.

Sounds cool. I will try that as well.
Placebo Thanks for the comments. I do writing and painting. So I am working the creative part all the time. I think I need to tap into somthing that is intrigueing but not boring.
Juggling. You would think once you learn to juggle all you would then be doing is working on your hand-eye cordination.

      Pleasure
And juggling is far more than hand-eye coordination.
Try it - you'll see it needs lots of mind-expanding concentration of a situation and multiple things at once.

I was thinking about this last night though. If your brain is great at reusing skills and information by means of common association.... thats great for storage. But what about awareness. If you need to be aware of multiple subjects at once, those common areas of skill cannot be used for all tasks simultaneously. Thus your awareness suffers.
However the common areas mean a more organised and easier to train/learn/organise brain.

Can't win then. Either you're a very aware person, or a quick thinker... is it really possible to master both simultaneously.
Perhaps if you're mind gives 'time slices' to each task.. harhar

I'm starting to like chess, in case you ever want to play some online chess with someone...
      If I hadn't made me
I'd be more inclined to bow
Powers that be would have swallowed me up
But that's more than I can allow...

Chess is a fasinating game. The more you play the more you realize how deep the game can become. My game suffers in the memory catagorie. I have good strategic moves along with solid openings but when the shit hits the fan and you have to think several moves ahead my brain begins to fail me.
Playsite.com > I am Howetzer as well there,They have chess rooms.
How long have you played Truthbearer?
I have had three lucid dreams where I tried to play chess. Hell, It made the telephone technique look easy. Very hard to focus on that type of thought process in a dream.
Although one time I watched my to freinds play and it was much clearer.

I started playing during my trip to Mexico, so for like a month or so. I don't know any strategies or predetermined openings or such, but I am a fairly logical person(when I wish to be ), so I hold my ground.

I've never played there but will sign up and see if I can play from there. I used to use yahoo games but they blocked some applets and shit so now I can't. I hope its different there...
