I have and have had a recurring dream character (DC) in more then half of my recorded dreams. That is a a lot.
I have used traditional methods to try and clue in but.
Here I think is the reason.

I am (instead of living in the past) I am dreaming in the past.
Many of these dreams I am me, but I am the me when I was younger. With that comes my 'younger' mind that has know clue or in site to reality checks (RC) or dream signs (DS).

I am often with a friend that I spent 99% of my child hood with. If I could somehow have my younger mindset changed to react to some of these lucid dream (LD) techniques would be IN!

How annoying is that (DC) (RC)

I feel like a younger version of myself in dreams a lot too. Like I will be with DC's much younger than I am now, but I feel like I am the same age as them. Probably this would be late teenage. I have dreams about childhood friends frequently too--my two best friends usually, both of whom I haven't spoken to in a long time. I don't know why, but I don't like thinking about them as DS's; I think sometimes I feel guilty that we haven't been in contact for so long, and I don't think about them much IRL. Maybe that's why they show up in dreams.

I wish I could use this "feeling of the past" as a DS too. That would cover probably like 90% of my dreams, so I would be lucid all the time.

Moonbeam. I am short on time BUT

I had a lucid last night. I long dream turning into a very short lucid dream
I was in school. I was being the class clown ('cough' not like in real life) The teacher was drawing back to punch me.
      That's when I realize I was dreaming.
I WAS IN THE STAE OF MIND OF A SEVETEEN YEAR OLD. I was a bit puzzled. I did not feel any aggression towards the teacher, in fact My attention went elsewhere.
This is an experience/feeling I hope I can hold on to. l=Like a memory they fade.
I opened the door. I saw the most beautiful landscape of rolling green hills and blooming flowers. (you know how it is when a hundred things seem to go through your head at the same time, or in an instance) I felt the most profound feeling of freedom, bound by no adult concepts. Ignorance perhaps. I had an enternity ahead of me and any choice I wanted. Liberated from money, religion, politics, responsibility.
      Fleeting, but marvelous.

I totally know what you mean. In dreams, your young true self can come back, and you forget your real-life problems.
