What is the scariest dreams you ever had?

I was dreaming that I woke up and there was a strange man cooking at my stove. He was very white and very opaque but his features and clothes were still very sharp and distinct. I watched him cook and when he finished, he started to walk down the hall and he passed right through me. That is when I knew that I was dreaming.
I told him to get out of my house that this was my dream. He turned and looked at me as if to say how dare you challenge me. I told him to get out again that I didn't want him in my dream. He started walking toward me. As he advanced I told myself that I wouldn't back down that this was my dream and he would leave. (in a very authoritative tone). He still came toward me.
He walked right up to me and grabbed my wrist. I still told him to leave again. He leaned to me and just as his lips were about to touch mine I woke up screaming because I couldn't make him leave.
I turned on every light in the house and slept like that for weeks afterwards.

Oh wow, that would be pretty scary! Strange that you couldn't get him to leave... maybe next time try something more direct? Like punching him in the nose?

My scariest dream is a recurring nightmare I had when I was younger. Haven't had it for a long time now, but it used to really scare me.

I'm walking next to a river in a swamp-like place. It's night and it's really foggy and there's a boy walking with me. However, I can't see his face, no matter how hard I try. He either turns away when I look, or it's too dark, or too foggy, or some other weird reason. We talk about stuff as we walk, as if we are old friends, though I'm sure I've never heard the boy's voice before.

Eventually we reach an old mansion, and it's exactly what you would expect a haunted house in the middle of a swamp to look like. All the windows are broken, and it's hard to see through the fog, but it looks like there is a light in one of the windows on the second floor. I'm terrified and don't want to go inside, but my companion insists that we go exploring, and I decide I'd rather go with him than remain alone in the swamp.

We enter the front door. There is a staircase in the foyer and a hallway that runs parallel to it. I can hear the sound of running water down the hallway, and the sound is fascinating to me, for some reason. I tell my friend to wait in the foyer and I go down the hallway to see the source of the sound.

After 20 feet or so of hallway, I find myself in a kitchen and discover that the sound is nothing more than a sink that has been left on. As if to verify this, I put my hands underneath the water and start washing them. Nothing strange happens, so I shut off the sink... and suddenly find myself extremely frightened once again. I want to call out for my friend's name, but, unfortunately, I have no idea what his name is.

Panicked, I sprint down the hallway and back into the foyer. My companion has mysteriously disappeared. Suddenly I sense something behind me, and quickly turn around. A glowing light appears at the top of the stairs, and I am unable to move or even scream. The light gradually gets brighter and brighter until finally I can make out an outstretched hand reaching toward me...

      And then I wake up.

The scariest dream I have had occurred when I was around five years old. A man with gray crazy frizzy hair and weird swirly eyes broke into my house after getting out an ice cream truck! It sounds silly now, but as a five year old it scared my head off! It seems like I've had it more than once, but I cannot remember. All I remember is the details of the dream- very well, even though I'm 16 now.

I had a similar experience (I just typed it up in Lucid Experiences). The guy tried to hack me up with an axe but I had the good sense to run and to threaten him with attempting to crush him.

Mine happened a few years ago. I got in a car with a man I discovered to be Satan. He locked me in his house, but I managed a terrifyingly close escape. I got to this empty hall where a group of people were huddled in the corner. Apparently we were test subjects.

Somebody (?) released a giant, living voodoo doll on rollerskates. I know that sounds funny, that's why I never told my family about this dream, but it was utterly horrible! The doll was twice as tall as me and its arms were so long they touched the ground. It could move unpredictably fast because of the rollerskates. And here's the worst part: if it touched you, you would die. All it needed was to touch you.

Terrifyed, the group of us ran and hid behind objects in the hall, as we got killed one by one. I managed to escape again, but I knew that Satan was close behind me. Eventually he caught me, and I was transported to a torture chamber... ok it goes on like this a little bit. I didn't want to go into too much detail though in case I dream of it again... Unfortunately, it was one of the longest and most vivid dreams I have ever had.

      Wow some pretty scary dreams

I feel quite lucky, ive had dreams that have felt scary at the time but when i wake up, they dont seem as scary anymore, if you get me? Nothing like the OP dream. Ive never had problems with sleeping because of a scary dream.

When I was ten years old, I'd just gotten the videogame "StarFox." The night of my tenth birthday party, I dreamt that Falco, one of the characters, was running towards the end of this platform-jumper-game-like hallway. It was very dark. When he got to the end, the view went immediately to this giant robotic thing. The "camera" was swallowed by its crab-like claw as it closed. I've never had a dream that scared me as much as that one.

ahaha, I know it must've been scary for you, but I just had a good laugh at that one!

My scariest dream happened about a year ago. I was taking a nap, and in my dream someone was giving me a piggyback ride down the street where I live. I couldn't see the face of who it was, so i leaned in. They turned their face so I could see who it was, and it was a very, very old woman with what looked to be a rotting face. In my dream, I could not get off her or escape, which was terrifying. A few seconds later, the dream ended and I woke up with my heart racing.

In the scariest dream I've had I was running from the guy from Halloween and he wanted to stab me! It was pretty freaky... Whenever I thought he was gone, there he would be again! Looking at it now... It was a pretty boring and stupid dream...

My dreams dont realy scare me but do instill other negative feelings. One i've had a few times makes me quite upset. Me and my whole family (cousins, grand parents ect.) are ona giant old fasioned steamboat. (skips the boaring details) we entered a swamp of sorts. I get to the shoar (not sure how?) and i see the boat in flames sinking with my family on board. As i stand on the shoar watching my family die, i see other kids (some creepy specteral people and kids who looked like they came from the 18th century) they all wept as it sank/burned. I personaly hate that dream. >.< *snif*

Around when I was ten, i had a re-occuring dream that i was in my room and it would start spinning around and turning upside down and all kinds of crazy things, my bed would shake and whenever i would reach for the doorknob it would turn into a skull!! I couldnt jump out of the window bc it was on the second floor and i was only 8, but (this is b4 i knew about LD's) i wanted to jump and suddenly my friend appeared with a trampoline outside my window and i jumped out...as soon as I did a giant cyclops dragon looking creature that was at least three stories tall would chase my friend and I around the neighborhood. There was this little concrete play shelter that was in a park (we called it the big cheese lol) we would hide under it and throw sand at the dragon and my friend would always end up getting smacked by his tail and flew into the nearby woods. After that I would proceed to run to the woods to find my friend and he would always be on this hill with nothing but dead trees around him holding out his hand. I would run to him but as I did he seemed to make a very demonlike smile and his eyes turned a bright red. He would grab my wrist and I would always wake up when he grabbed me.

ps. This is my first post and I love this site, everyone has good grammar. lol

Very scary. Next time, think up a shotgun and use your imagination.

Now, my nightmare. This is when I was about 4 and didn't know Silent Hill.

It was Halloween, and I walked into my kitchen where there was a load of mannequins. I asked my mom what they were, and she said they were for decorating. I looked at the mannequins and saw a scary one with an old woman pushing some guy on a wheelchair. The scary thing was I saw it trembling. The only trembling mannequin. I turned back to my mom and shouted, but she was gone, and as usual, my voice was gone.

I turned back around and saw the mannequin pushing the wheelchair slowly toward me. I ran into my living room, where I saw the hallway blocked off. I was about to jump out the window when I saw zombies outside. I turned back around and saw the mannequin slowly entering the room. I shouted for help, but no voice. And then I couldn't move. I watched helplessly as it came toward me. The one in the wheelchair reached out for me, and suddenly the zombies broke through the window.

Then the gore came, but I'm not getting into that.

Good luck on controlling your nightmares, and the next LD I have, I'm going back to my nightmare and destroying the manequins and killing the zombies.

I've had lots of crazy nightmares, but 3 stick out in my mind.

the first one was when i was like 8. I my dad and i were walking home from this building. There was grass everywhere and it seemed like a nice day. All of a sudden my dad started running ahead to get away from me, he wouldnt let me catch up, i was running, and saw that the grassy path i was on parted. One part went up a hill, That was an easy climb on one side, but it had a steep edge right next to the path. The other part went down into a forest. My dad went down into the forest of colorfull trees (blue yellow green brown purple) which (in the dream) was the long way home. So i went up the hill cause it was a shortcut. I kept walking up the hill right next to the edge, till suddenly i slipped. I managed to grab on to the edge, but i was hanging there, and i was slowly losing my grip. If i fell, it was at least a 200 ft drop down to that colorfull forest. Suddenly my dad appeared above me. I started begging him to please save me. I asked him several times, and everytime he said without an expression on his face, nope i dont care. So i fell, and right before i hit the trees, i woke up.
This was before i the divorce and finding out that my dad wasnt my dad and that he was a major @sshole all those years. Kind of a weird coincedence i think. Perhaps i knew about it subconsiously that whole time?

anyway to lighten the mood i'll tell this other one. It was when i was little too. i was up at a someones cabin. It was dark outside. Everyone was out on the front porch smoking and playing cards. There was this mountain in the distance. I looked over at it and i saw this spiderman like guy, In a black suit walking around on it. The perception of depth in this dream was all messed up. He always looked the same size no matter how close or fall he was. all the people playing cards saw him too. They were going to say somthing, but i warned them not to. Then a stupid friend (not in real life, dont even know him) Decided to stick his tongue out at the monster thing. It saw us and got really mad lol. It started charging down the hill and we all paniced and scattered. It came up to the porch and over turned the card table and threw the chairs around and was about to beat up on my friends when i woke up. I told my bro about it and he started laughing. crazy lol

The Dog with the Shifty Eye's

Before anyone asks No I don't mean the Episode of the Simpson withMel Gibson : )

The scariest dream I ever had (still sends shivers down my spine) was when I was about 15. The Dream starts with me and my housemate (someone I don't know but inherently trust) moving into a new appartment.

The dream is fairly normal until my housemate brings back a stray dog. This dog immediately raises the hairs at the back of my neck and from the beginning I dislike the dog. I try to convince my housemate that there's something wrong with the dog but obviously he doesn't believe me.

The rest of the nightmare was a futile attempt by me to expose the dog for the evil entity that I know him to be even though in the dream the dog does nothing that I can remember, to prove that he is anything but a stray dog.

The dream ends with the dog doing something that is not immediately apparent in the dream, but that I know about nonetheless. I actually start crowing at the dog that this time he can't cover up the evidience and this time people will believe me! The Dog's reply is to turn his head, fix me with those scary yellow eyes and ...for the first time in the whole dream...speaks to me telling me that he doesn't understand why I have such a problem with him.

Of course at this stage I'm shocked into speechlessness and the dog goes on to explain that I am correct and that he will not be able to cover up the evidence of his deed. However as he is no longer that same dog (while he's explaining this, my point of view starts to change) it's not really his problem.

It's at this point that I realise that I have become the dog and the dog has become me....which is also the point my housemate bursts in ...with a shotgun .... screaming at me to get away from " that evil creature"...he points the shotgun at the dog ...which of course is me ...pulls the trigger ...and I wake up

Well ...it scared the crapola outta me .

      One of My scariest dreams

This is not my scariest dream (Close to it though) but is the one I remember best because it is a recurring dream I have had probably 40 or more times in about 15 years.
I am a paratrooper doing a night jump onto a huge hill.
      It's dark and rainy.
The visibility is terrible and I am soon soaked from the rain and mud when up the hill come other soldiers,
      LOTS of them.
      Enemy soldiers.
There is an extreme exchange of gunfire and our position is over run.
I see other men from my company being killed as we retreat down the backside of the hill into thick brush.
Between the dark and the rain causing poor visibility and the thick brush we are stuck with no place to go and one by one everyone is being slaughtered.
Finally out of the dark and rain come about 5 men who shoot both the man on my right and the man on my left, They then fire at me and I see a bright flashes in the dark and am aware of being hit multiple times and I know I am dying.
      Then I wake up.
I have had this dream 3 or 4 times a year for well over 10 years and it is always exactly the same.
I always wake up sweating with my heart pounding.
( I was never a paratrooper in real life)

@davedreamer: stop watching band of brothers and other D-Day-movies... no seriously, I'm not an expert (or not yet ) in LD, but I suppose if you got lucid in such a dream and could control the circumstances (like in Matrix, jumping about, stopping bullets) it could become really funny and in addition you wouldn't be haunted anymore by that nightmare...

My scariest dream I remember occured to me when I was about 5 or 6, maybe 7. I remember I watched Godzilla (one of the old chinese or japanese versions) without the permission of my parents, plus I was ill having a cold.
In the dream surprisingly nothing happened about Godzilla... In exchange I was in some kind of a space ship, a very little one (a few squaremeters large) and looking very cute (like it was a kids' toy [which it was probably]). In the dream I was looking at the ship from the outside, although I knew I was inside. The ship was flying in an orange-beige-white coloured cave wallpapered/decorated fully with gigantic pieces of old mattresses. Consequently the ground, the floor and the ceiling were very soft. After a while I was running out of fuel and the ship began to gravitate and therefore to toddle und tumble until it finally began to flip madly around like a ball in a pinball-machine.
that doesn't really sound scary, but I was feeling every bounce for my whole body vibrated at every impact and in addition after a few it began to hurt. It went on until the pain became too much and I finally woke up feeling like I've touched a strong electric device...

The scaryst dream i had made my mother get an appointment with a phiciatrist because i lost so much sleep over it i started to fall asleep in school and started to see stuff.
Ok so what happens in this dream is preety horiffic so read with caution.
I am just getting out of my dads car to walk into my mams house as soon as i closed the door i heard a fizzing sound,i turned around to see that all the doors and windows were meling into a gooie jelly like substance leaving a pulsating mass on the floor. in my dream at this point i just blink then when i open my eyes.........All the walls were made out of what i assumed was bleeding flesh (this is as a documented in my dream journal) i looked to to see arms jutting out of the fleshy celing trying to grab me. one of them does then they all get me and move me upside down to the bathroom. in here the admosphere was unexplainably horrific. the tiles of the bathroom were made out of finger nails and the bath was encrusted with rust with eyes that kept watching me in it. then i wake up and just scream my ears out untill my mam wakes up and trys to calm me down but i never slept that night and you know the rest.

      Thumbs down

So far I would really only consider the dreams Shaderem X, (espicially) Reality Killer, and YFRog posted to be true nightmares. But maybe that's just because they've plagued me for a long, loooong time. Some of the other one's do sound kind of frightening though.

One of the worst one's i've ever had started out in school. It seemed to be a normal day, and as I went about my business as usual but it slowly deteriorated into a dismal dark atmosphere, at which point everyone simply faded away. I was simply wandering around (by now I realized it's a dream, but didn't know how to escape/change it). The atmosphere was what got to me at first, a lot like some of the scenes from the movie The Grudge. The walls would ripple and twitch, sometimes writhe in akward intervals. Every now and then I would stop and attempt to read the demented writing all over the walls, with no success. After a while of wandering I suddenly found myself in the cafeteria, which was completley vacant exept for two unkown men. One standing, the other tied to a chair. I stood their and stared at both of them for quite some time... not knowing quite what to expect. Then the one standing cracked the most wicked smile i've ever seen, and a channel lock (large pliers) just appeared in his hand. He then looked at the one tied to the chair, who was utterly horrified. Then began to rip off his upper lip, slowly. All I remember from that point on is the sound of flesh being ripped echoing off the walls, and distant screams that still seem familiar somehow. *Shudder* Not a pleasant memory, I also woke up tasting blood.

Recently I hit a dog, damn gravel, I just couldn't stop... Anyway this resulted in a dream with a dull fragment of someone force feeding a springer spaniel motor oil. I don't remember much about it, and don't want to.

Also several drowning dreams come to mind, but I don't feel like making some sort of epic post right now...

Just a few examples... my mind tends to take my reality and twist it into confusing complex nightmares/dreams. Which is why I think for a while I basicly blocked out my dreams, seeing as I had none for weeks at a time. Although i've recently been trying to become lucid, to reclaim my dreamscape, and to see what my mind can manifest when the laws of waking reality don't apply.

This is a direct copy paster from my last dream post. This was one hell of a nightmare.

Alright im telling you right now if someone makes a multi-million dollar
movie from this ill hunt you down! Now on with the first nightmare ive had in 5 years, well this one made up for all the ones ive missed. I call it "The Lone Rider"

Well it starts off school just ended and i get a call from my friend Larsen that theres this huge field trip that the school planed late. They were gonna go to a place i cant remember, i think a tennis rink. "!?" Anyway i say ill be there in a few minutes. Well i start playing Call of duty 3 online. It's 3:45 and the bus leaves at 3:50. On my way there im going way over the speed limit it in my scion, and almost get it totaled. Well when i get to the school the buses left.
I decide to go to the store and get a burrito. When i was in the store NO ONE ELSE WAS THERE! Not even the clerks etc. Well i see one of my friends with a key walking to the tobacco cabinet. So i duck behind a check-out stand and watch him. He opens the cabinet with the key and takes out a pack of chewing tobacco. I say "WAIT!, what are you doing?!"
He takes off and runs out the door. lol i grab a pack to and put some in my mouth while running. It tasted so real actually pretty good, but ive never had any in real life and i dont plan on it. Anyway i chase my friend out the door and he gets in a car and drives off.
Then i hear some ruckus and look around. I see some, well A LOT of beautiful girls fighting about something by blockbuster. Apparently they got on the roof. So i run , jump and climb up the "B" on the sign. When i get up there a girl gets her clothes ripped off. OOOHHHH there sat the nice-est umm "melons" ive ever seen. So i go over to her and rub.... you get the picture, . Well i made out with her and stuff but no penetration,
. Then i jump off the building and run behind the store. Then this some what homeless guy came up pushing a kart(home depot-like kart) and dragging something on a plastic trash bag. He says, in a crying voice, "She died! He killed her and my friend!" I look in the kart and theres a twin of the guy talking to me, dead, wrapped in a blanket, with blood pouring out of his mouth. Then i look at the plastic bag, theres an old sheep dog blown in half with its guts mangled and falling out of its torso, blood smeared all over its fur. Then the guy looks behind himself and says "Thats him! RUN!" I look and see a man on a brown horse, with an old trench jacket and a cowboy hat on. In his hand he held a double barreled shot gun pointed pointing up. I feel the hair on the back of my sack rise. jk. With my heart in my throat i run as fast as i can to the car. Im in the parking lot and my dads standing by the car. I yell "GET IN THE CAR NOW!!!!" I jump in and lock the doors. As im putting the key in the ignition i see two barrels pointed at my dad trough the glass. Then i hear it the dreaded booming of the gun.... my dad falls limp while the seat belt held his body from hitting the dash. I scream in fury, as the car starts. I look around and the gunman was gone.
As im driving home my dad wakes up and says "What the HELL was that!" Im filled with joy from the fact the buck shot only grazed the side off his cheek, and tell him about the homeless guys and the rider. We get home and my dad goes in the house, and i see my grandma watering the plants. I sit and think to myself who in God's name is that bastard, and who's gonna stop him. Suddenly i was ripped out of concentration by the sound of a horse sneezing. I turn around and see the the gunman on his horse about 50 yards away dashing my way. At this point my heart is beating out of my chest and fear has filled my body. I run, no.. sprint at full speed to the door and slam the screen door open, then what felt like my heart exploding, came in to feeling. My grandma was still watering the plants. "GRANDMA!!! GET IN THE HOUSE NOW!!!!! RUN!!!!!" exploded out of my mouth in intense despair. (Cliche) Too late. The sound of the shot gun forcefully entered my ear. As i turned tears filled my eyes, the site was disgusting, what was my grandma was now a mangled mess of flesh, blood, and bone. Blood all over the sidewalk and guts spilling from the mess.
I slam the doors and lock both of them. My dad came running from the living room and asked me what the matter was. "Grandma's lying on the sidewalk in an indistinguishable pile of matter!!!! THAT WHATS THE MATTER!!! Look through the peep hole!" I exclaimed crying. He looked through the hole and almost threw up. "Thats IT!! Im buying a M16!!!" he shouted as he ran to the computer room.

Thats all i can remember for now. This was the most intense dream ive ever had in my entire life. I wouldnt want anyone else to have it either. This dream left me traumatized for about 20mins after i woke up. COMMENTS PLEASE!!!

The scariest dream I've had was during an episode of sleep paralysis years ago (I was not practicing lucid dreaming at the time).

I was home from college for the weekend sleeping in my bed and woke up but I could only open my eyes. I was laying on my back and from my bed I could see into my parents hallway (they leave the hallway light on all night and my door was 1/2 open).

I'm freaking out in my mind cause I can't move a muscle and my eyes seem to want to shut so bad and I'm fighting to fully awaken. I have this sense of dread like I'm dying and I can't call out. I can hear the wind and the leaves brushing against the house and my neighboors wind-chimes but nothing else.

Suddenly I see a hand with long fingers curl around the door frame and the top half of a head looks into my room. (I don't know if it looked like an alien or if thats what my distressed mind assumed it was. My heart is racing out of my chest and at this point I'm too paralysed and hyperventalating (from SP AND fear) that I lay there praying to god that this is not happening. I'm struggling for life to move but cannot. My eyes dart to the door way again and I struggle to keep them open and there is nothing there but I have a feeling something is standing there waiting.

I must have passed out at that point because next thing I remember was waking up in the morning.

I STILL think about that night all the time - god I hope it was just SP.

Wow. Just wow. I feel sorry for you, and really wish that never happens to me.

The scariest dream I've ever had wasn't all that scary, really. It was a sunday night, so naturally I dreamt I awoke on Monday morning. Then the dream continued through school on monday. Then monday evening. Tuesday morning. Wednesday. It was on "Thursday" I realized I was dreaming. I skipped dream school and spent the entire day trying to wake up. I started thinking I had gone into a coma or something. Halfway through Friday, I woke up.

Threw everything out of wack for me for a month. It doesn't sound like a scary dream, but I truely felt, common sense aside, that I would never be able to wake up again.
