I was just reading another thread I'm not sure how this board really works yet - if you are supposed to start new topics in new threads? My apologies if this is the wrong thing.

First - you guys are all amazing. I've learned so much in the short time since I joined!

Second, I'm trying to figure out the basics of lucid dreaming. It's when you are dreaming and you know you are dreaming right? And you can control what you do?

The thread I was reading someone mentioned how the majority of their dreams were lucid and someone else asked the techniques. Which made me think about how I do it and I don't know how.

Sometimes I think about what I'd like to dream about as I'm trying to fall or asleep. Or I will watch a movie with a theme of what I want to dream (Pirates of the Caribbean, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings).

When I doze off there is occasionally those weird leg jerking moments and then I'm asleep and I just know I'm asleep and I go about doing whatever I'm going to do.

Sometimes I sit back and let the dream unfold, knowing I'm there but taking an audience sort of view. I have 'stepped' in when I was either bored or getting scared of something or wanted to do something different.

I don't really have a technique other than knowing that when I fall asleep I will be dreaming and depending the dream I'll just shuffle along or participate but am always aware.

The thing I haven't really mastered is pulling away from some dreams. I'm in my dream, finished with it and wanting to physically wake and simply cannot. Sometimes it's very scary. I'll see the clock but I'm still in the dream.

Thanks for any advice or thoughts.
