Which is best for LDing - Light sleepers or Deep sleepers

      Hi,
I have been trying to LD for about 4 months with no success although my dream recall is quite good and I have been using RCs frequently during each day.

I was just wondering if being a light sleeper had anything to do with my failed attempts?

I have read Stephen Leberges Exploring the World of Dreams which talks about his experiments but it does not touch on this question.

I am a light sleeper and I find that my dreams are just stories with little vividness. Maybe this lack of vividness or feeling of actually being there stops me from asking the question 0 Hang on this seems like a dream?

Whereas deep sleepers maybe get into the dream world more.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this matter?

      Thanks

      Paulh.

Well I would say being a light sleeper can definitely work to your advantage because you would be more likely to drift in and out of sleep, hence increasing your chances of staying conscious upon entering your dream world.

Have you tried keeping a dream journal? Perhaps with improved recall you could see that you do have vivid dreams as well.

Anyway, LDs mostly happen during REM sleep, so as long as you are able to reach that...

Thanks for the quick reply Mes Tarrant,

Yes I do keep a Journal and remember 2 dreams a night, I have been keeping it for about 3 and a half months now and must have hundreds of dreams recorded.

All the dreams however feel more like stories in my head when I'm having them, not very vivid.

Oh well I will keep trying.

      Thanks

Hmmm...they don't really sound like dreams. Are you actually participating in them? Sometimes, when I am on the verge of waking up/dreaming, I have weird logic and stories running through my head. Perhaps that is what you are experiencing. Try setting your alarm clock for the middle of an REM period. Maybe that will be in the middle of a more vivid dream?

I have had a dry spell for about 2 weeks or so now, and last night I thought I was in deep sleep, I dont know - went to bet at like 5am - could have been light sleep - but had a mini lucid. I was so tired though that I'm suer it was deep sleep.

I wud say it is an advantage because of what Mes Tarrant said u wake up all the time which allows u to do lding techniques, and also being a light sleeper may also mean you are more aware in yout dreams.

I am also a light sleeper.

Personally I'm quite a light sleeper, so I understand your problem there.

I've found that on top of RC's, being generally questioning of everything in your head "How does that work?" "How did she get there?" helps me question reality in dreams.

Also take note that being a light sleeper can have it's disadvantages as well.

      1) Your more likely to wake up hence dreams ending short.
      2) You wake up easily hence random sounds could cause you to wake up.

These in themselves could pose a problem for some people. I don't know if I am a light sleeper or a deep sleeper, but if you come to wake me up you will probably succeed. I would say I am about average, but my dreams are very very vivid.
