      What was this?

This morning I woke up and realized that I had just gotten 6 hours of sleep. I was going to do a WBTB but I was far too lazy. So I changed sleeping positions instead. Then I started to fall asleep. I was a little frustrated that I hadn't had a lucid dream in a while now and it made me slightly annoyed. I thought to myself, I wish I'd have a lucid dream soon..

I fell asleep for about 10 minutes, then I woke up again, but not all the way. I wasn't even really all the way asleep. But I started feeling harsh, heavy vibrations, heavier than normal, then I realized I must be WILDING...but how? I wasn't trying to. If anything I wanted to have a DILD. I realized that soon I'd be able to move my dream body. When I felt the shift, I moved my arm and touched my face. My hand went through my face. Well this must be a lucid dream. Then I heard someone shout very loudly "HELLO IN THERE?! HELLO! I SAY HELLO!!!" and it didn't actually happen because it sounded like I had been wearing studio headphones when I heard it. It scared the bloody jebus out of me and it made me wake up before I could even open my eyes. In all the experience lasted about 6 seconds. Any ideas what this was?

You know when you're trying to think of a song or somebody's name and you rack your brain so hard attempting to recall it? Then after you stop thinking about it and just think about something else the answer seems to present itself to your conscious. Sounds like the same sorta thing just with your lucid dream. Might be an idea for inducing an LD if it's not already a technique.

      Heuristic lucidity? Interesting...

I believe it likely that some stimulus caused you to wake up slightly, but not quite all the way, roughly the level of consciousness you would be at had you WILDed your way there. Your mind became aware, roughly at the same time you were transitioning into a dreamstate. An accidental WILD. Fascinating! Of course, the noise was either a fully-fledged dream, or, more likely, surprisingly vivid hypnagogic sound. It took you by surprise, and the rest is history.

Still, that's pretty awesome. I'd love to know if anyone else has experienced such a fortuitous event.
      Yeah.

The whole WILD thing happens every night regardless of whether or not you were trying to do it or not. You will get the vibrations, SP, etc. every night and even the Vertigo, but what's the difference?

Awareness is the key if you aren't aware and just pass out and sleep then you won't be aware of the of the Vibrations, Sp, Vertigo, Etc. cause your mind has already fallen asleep and so you do not experience these for yourself. What you did was my method of WBTB which causes things to happen a lot quicker.

Oooooh. Right, I should of known that I suppose. But what about the voice saying all that rubbish? It may have indeed been hypnagogic sound, but normally for me hypnagogic sound is pretty quiet, and is usually music. This time it was loud, surroundsound like and echoey. It jolted me awake.

<edit> I believe I was experiencing the transitional phase. For some reason I always get startled out of it. The slightest sound scares me, and it takes me out of it. That's why I am so bad at WILDing. I guess the phase startles me and I wake up. </edit>

Once when I accidently did a WILD a few weeks ago I was laying in my bed and had a FA and my room was very bright like it was day except at the time I was keeping my room dark and some music was playing and then I really did wake up and it was dark and no music was playing this repeated three times and on the third time a voice said "If you hear music playing you are dreaming" this made since, because no music was playing when I was awake but it was when I was dreaming.

I have experienced the same thing with a voice it happens. Hypnagogic sound can be anything.

Hearing what sounds like a creepy old man is completely normal haha I've read about and experiened it myself. Make sure you don't get scared of anything you hear and see. I think that's our body's last attempt to see if we're really asleep or not so just passively view and listen to what your presented with and don't lose concentration.

Yeah I think you're right, but when it's happening it's really startling. Not necessarily scary, it just startles me cause it's so sudden, and such. I was so close to WILDing.
