      DC frequency

an interesting topic popped up in chat just now that I think would be quite nice to talk about. We noted how our lucid dreams tend to have less Dream Characters than our regular dreams. Now, I've never really seen this discussed, so it could make for something new and interesting.

Does the same happen with you?

Anyone care to speculate on reasons for this?

      Two ideas:

      • Your dream control may not be powerful enough to "properly" handle complex interactions with DCs, so your head just saves you the effort.
      • You put focus on maintaining and managing lucidity, so other mental processes such as dream character creation and "AI" is ignored.

This happens in my ld's as well there are no where near as much dc's as in my normal dreams, sometimes none at all. It's scary in some of my ld's because it's night (pitch black) and there's no one around, i am are fearing something to come from somewhere and attack me (like in a horror movie)

I'm glad u brought this up because i have been curious about this aswell and cause no one else had said anything about this i thought it was just me.

All of my dreams have tons of people, lucid or not. And they're always totally intelligent, and if they're people I know, they act exactly the same.

What? My Lucid's have tons and tons and tons of DC's in them. It's the Low Level Lucid ones that seem to be lacking DC's in them.

1000 how dare you lower my post count by 2 and make me come back!

I seem to have little to no DCs in lucids, compared to the tons I usually get in regular dreams. It's quite funny actually for me to see the shift between a regular dream and a lucid one, it's like everything goes quiet and comes into focus. As for the brain not being able to process all the information required to create DCs in a lucid dream, I think that our subconscious requires little effort to create and animate DCs. If it can do it in our regular dreams, then why not in our lucid dreams? I don't think that the frequency of DCs is influenced by our dream control, because their actions are out of our control (well until we decide to mess with them that is). I think it has to do more with the fact that our subconscious follows our newly activated conscious mind and becomes somewhat "tamed". I hope this makes sense to somebody :p...

      Hey there,

For me, the amount of DC's in my lucid dreams is entirely dependant on the enviroment I find myself in. I get a lot of lucid dreams starting in the same locations (often because these are dreamtriggers for me), where you wouldn't expect many DC's (a house I used to live in, my bedroom, "falling off of something").

I usually don't remain there though, and often go outside, where it'll be crowded with dreamcharacters as usual.

So to those who report having few dreamcharacters in their dreams, I'd ask. Where are you when you become lucid, and what are the circumstances of you becoming lucid? Maybe that has something to do with it.

I have noticed that in some, but not all of my lucid dreams, they will have a lot less DCs. I also have noticed that upon lucidity, some of them seem to loose most of their "A.I.".
It's like they will suddenly dumb down and become "floaty". Like this one time I uppercut some random guy in a lucid dream (i tend to have weird violent outbursts in lucid dreams, just because i can) and he was completely motionless... he just sort of "floated" with the impact. It also has happened a few times to my partners in lucid dream sex, which kind of disturbs me - sleeping with a motionless person and all.

Well, in a LD your conscious mind is (for the most part) in control of the dream. It kind of shoves the subconscious out of control. So all of the effort the SC makes to create DCs is then placed on your conscious mind. If that idea makes sense.

      It doesn't

The theory about consciousness and subconsciousness assumes that the consciousnes is PART of the subconsciousness. It's not something that stands seperate. So conscious or not, your subconscious is always active, even in your waking life.

      At least, that's the theory

yeh i know what u mean, this has happened a few times it's like u are sleeping with a dead person, it also happens when i go into a car and there is somebody lying or leaning against the window completely motionless, if this happens i always get out of the car and go find another one. (too creepy)

Well, my lucids have the amount of DCs I assume are regular amount in whatever location. I mean, there are a lot in cities but maybe only a few I interact with or remember clearly [due to interaction]... And there are never a lot if I'm in a room that appears too void for life, if any.

Some of my DCs are too smart for me, they answer some of my questions in indifferent, you have to think about the meaning sort of answers. So really, I don't have that problem, the amount's as normal in a non-lucid as in a lucid.

My LD's have plenty of people in them, too. They're intelligent and totally independent. I can't get them to do what I want, not that I ever give it much of a try. I've tried to make people I wanted to see appear, but I couldn't find them. I just kept changing, myself. My LD's usually take place in crowded public places, city plazas, my school campus outdoors or in the halls of the classroom buildings. The people I know are the same as in rl, too. I've met some mystic bums as well. What the heck does, "Time is suspanse" mean? Suspanse isn't even a word.

Haha, yeah, some DCs are just out there. Though, I rarely have problems summoning, my smart DCs aren't omnipotent so they can suffer my wrath if the right buttons are pushed. My DCs can say stupid/weird things, but not nearly as stupid/weird as what I say in non-lucids

I have no diference in the number of dcs in lucid and non lucid dreams, I actualy think I have more in lucid dreams, but maybe thats just because they attack me in lucid dreams and I notice them more.

      ^Probably
