Lol it could be made up German - are you fluent in real life?

Might also be because you know the words but you are not that good at it, but then in the dream you have easier access to your memory. Could also be made up german based on what you know so it sounds real.

Yes, that happens to me as well. I work for a German company and sometimes have to read, write, or speak German, but by no stretch of the immagination am I fluent . It is just so much easier in dreams. I don't know why!

This is just my dodgy little theory that probably isn't true.

In your dream, you are less aware as to what is going on. When you are asked to speak a different language, you probably pick words out of thin air that sound like they'd fit, even though you don't.

Let's just say you say a sentence in polishgoogalian (because I don't know any other languages). Somebody says in your dream, "Say 'hello I am fat' in polishgoogalian". You say:

Jbiwababa googalalal doodoo fattyfattyfat[/b]

The word in bold is a word you didn't know and just made up, but we'rent aware of it in the dream because that's basically how you are in a dream.

Then when you wake up and go to a english->polishgoogalian dictionary, you look up Hello... it's Jbiwababa...that's right...you look up I....it's googalalal...that's right...when you look up "am" in the dictionary, your brain suddenly changes "doodoo" to read the word that is actually correct.

And then you think "omg! I spoke it fluently!"

If you understood that, have a cookie. My theory's probably wrong anyway.

I watched subbed dragon ball gt for 3 days straight and could speak whatever language it was in my dreams...

I understand what u mean Kaniaz *helps self to cookie* I think ur right coz I mean what seeker said is right but if u didn't know a word u'd just make it up if u were gonna say it in a dream.

yea, i was going to say that, in the dream anything can seem as if its true, or possible... if it didnt, you would know you were dreaming... something of that might be left over...

Well, I've studied German for 4/5 years, and been to Germany 3/4 times I think, but i'm by no means fluent, far from it in fact. Mainly I understand what people say but can find it hard replying.

Its an incredibly interesting phenomenon, now that I think about it.
My theory goes more along the line of :

You aren't really speaking, or using words even. You speak in 'thoughts' in your dream. You BELIEVE the words are coming out as usual.
So when you speak German, you just think the same thoughts, but with the feel of the German language.
You never really utter the words.. that part never reaches fruition

I might be wrong too... but I like my theory

Deutch is German for German =P

"Deutsch" is German for "German"

Anyhoo, my German is aaaaaaaaaaaalways better in dreams than in reality. I think it's true, Lifechild, that the dreams lower inhibitions just enough to make a difference. And I've been known to add a bit of nonsense in there as well, and woke up thinking "Wtf did I just say?!?!"

Anyway, congrats on the new trainers! Purple, huh......

I'll try to speak portuguese in my dreams. I can't speak the language, but I can understand most/half of it(Yea, I know. it's strange)
