Question about Dream Masks

You know when you put on a dream mask gadget and it detects your REM period and flashes lights in your eyes .

My question is is the lights suppose to flash through out your dream? Wont that ruin your dream? Or does it turn of after a while?

I dont have any of theses mask, but this is something I never really understood

westonci, I have the NovaDreamer and It does not flash throughout your entire dream.

The lights begin to flash when the mask detects REM movement (i.e., your eyelids moving).

You can program it to flash a specific number of times (i.e., 5, 10, 20, etc.) and you can also program the intensity (brightness) of the flash.

I should really read into it, but seing as its on topic, out of interest, why does it flash? Is it to remind you to awaken?

It flashes to alert you that you are in REM (rapid eye movement) and that you are dreaming.

If you've practiced doing reality checks whenever you see lights flashing, turning on, etc.. the flash cues you to do a reality check and therefore helps you to become lucid.
