Best Way to Prolong Lucid Dreams?

I've never had a lucid dream (as I've only been reading about lucid dreaming since yesterday), I was wondering how I could prolong my lucid dreams when/if I have them. BTW, this place has been a real help for my "research" and for giving me something to do during the hours I have nothing to do this summer.

People have posted quite a few techniques, like spinning, focusing on an object, or shouting verbal commands like, "Slow real time!" or "High lucidity!". Good luck with your LDs!

      Lol welcome to the forums.

Read the tutorials and the main site articles, they should tell you all you need to know about sustaining lucidity.

Scwigglie gives a few of the good techniques to attempt this.

      Welcome!

Dreams usually either fade away into delta sleep (deeper) or by waking (what I call 'thinning')

In both cases, what should help is to get involved in the environment in a vivid active way. Eg. look at your hands while running them down a rough wall in the dream.
This involves yourself in a detailed environment that keeps you there.

Spinning helps for some reason, and verbal commands work well too. Call it the power of the mind

In the case of the dream falling too deep, close to delta, you can try stimulating your logic to help your concious mind stay around.
Eg. Do some simple math. You will be suprised at how stupid you'll be

Either way, I suggest you concentrate on the 'attaining lucidity' part for now, and if you find you are in one, and need to extend it. Try the verbal commands and spinning. They are the most universal useful techniques.
Keep in mind that you AFAIK you can't extend it indefinitely I wish...

      Enjoy the journey
