I've had this problem too, and then I saw that people who were way busier than me and who got even less sleep than me were still able to lucid dream without a problem. So, it is possible! Technically speaking, I only need to sleep 4 hours to lucid dream, and I know of some people who are the same way.

What you could do is forget about lucid dreaming during the weekdays and just devote the weekends to it, perhaps even just one day. All other times, as long as you keep the idea of lucid dreaming in your head by maybe stopping by DV every now and then or reading tidbits from a lucid dreaming book, you still have a good change of getting a spontaneous LD throughout the week.

      Does this help?

Try going to bed a half hour earlier. Ideally, a full hour earlier. I know you said you have trouble getting to sleep if you go to bed too early but, how much earlier are you talking about? If you always go to bed only when you're very tired then I'd definitely try going to sleep a bit earlier.

Maybe add a little sleep time every other week or so. For example, you could try going to bed 15 minutes earlier for a week or two, then 1/2 hour, 45 minutes... up to a full hour. That extra hour could be what you need.

Also do what Mes Tarrant said. There's no need to kill yourself in hopes of a lucid dream. A little more sleep and a harder focus on less days might be your recipe.

Good luck and let us know how things work out for you.

Yeah. Or perhaps you need to examine the reasons why you can't go to sleep unless you're really really tired....

I would recomend keeping a dream journal if you aren't. And thinking more about lucidity also helps. I do it while I get ready for bed.
