Manifestations of the Psyche: The Relationship connecting Lucid Dreams & Hallucinogens

Sigmund Freud, the creator of psychoanalysis, believed that the psyche was comprised of 3 components:[1] Id - represents the instinctual drives of an individual and remains largely unconscious. Super-ego - represents a person's conscience and their internalization of societal norms and morality. Ego - conscious and serves to integrate the drives of the id with the prohibitions of the super-ego. By Freud's definitions it would be seem that the Id holds domain over the Subconscious (dreams), and the Ego holds domain over the waking life, while the Super Ego acts as a censor that only allows the Id (Subconscious) to communicate with the Ego symbolically instead of literally. If this is true then during a lucid dream your brain allows the Ego to manifest itself in the Subconscious, thus allowing you to control the dream. On the other hand in the waking life if you take hallucinogens they allow your Brian to let the Id to manifest itself in the waking-life influencing how you see objects, making look more like the object in your dreams (i.e. Dali paintings).
