I'm having problems with reality checks.

While, I've only recently made a forum account here, I've been doing reality checks often and dream-journalling for a few weeks. But one thing I find in nearly all my dreams is that they seem to play out like a movie, in the way that I don't feel I can interact with them to even discover that I am in fact, dreaming. A few times I have made the discovery that I'm dreaming, oddly enough on mundane activities like crashing my car or quitting my job, but it's been completely accidental, never by a realisation that I'm dreaming and performing a reality check.

Will this sort of altered way of dreaming come with practice, or is there something I'm missing?

There are many ways to reality check, but my personal favorite is counting fingers. It has gotten to be such a subtle habit while awake that I constantly get lucids by doing it when I'm dreaming.

As far as it not working, I suspect that your problem is that you haven't gotten your reality check down as a physical habit yet. Another thing that you have to remember is that even if you don't have conscious control over the things you do in dreams while not lucid, you will still perform tasks that you have down to a habit without consciously making the decision to do them. Hence the beauty behind reality checks.

Man you and I are in the same boat.
I just joined a few weeks ago
and ive been keeping my DJ too.
no lucids yet, but I am going to buy a digital watch
that beeps every hour so I can RC
and it will eventually become a habbit.
Maybe you should look into this tech.

I am the exact same way. I feel like I am just watching my dream, and normally, even if something weird happens, it doesn't occur to me that this couldn't really be happening, or why am I watching this. Sometimes I am not even in the dream, I am just watching it. I think the hardest part of it all is to just connect to that world.

Wow, okay, last night I dreamt that my car was stolen, among other things when I tried to call the police, the phone wasn't working and I realised after I woke up that the car being taken should've seemed odd because my keys are always in the pocket of whatever shirt I happen to be wearing. Even though this particular situation didn't make me lucid, I did feel as though I could've been in control if my mind was a bit more focussed. My only regret is that I only have 8 hours a day to dream

I was the same way. I was going to make a post about it. Until last night.

When I had my first Lucid Dream. I'm way stoked for the next one.

Yeah. It just sorta happened. Actually, it wasn't a random reality check. I saw the same thing twice, and instead of saying "Dejavu," I just decided to do an RC. Crazy stuff!

Last night was odd, I must've been having a strange dream that I don't rememeber, because I do remember right at the end yelling "I'm dreaming!", rather than gaining control I woke up yet again. But this is the second time I've gained realisation that I was dreaming in a week, I think I may be getting closer to lucidity

DEFINITLY. Lucid dreaming is just like any other hobby or sport; you have to practice at it. This is why, most of the time, people get dry spells. They don't practice.

Yes, I had my first lucid dream 3 weeks ago and haven't had one since. However, my dream recall has improved a LOT, from going to remembering a dream every other night, to remembering 1 or 2 every night. I must admit however, I am still getting in the habit of performing reality checks, and I don't really keep a dream journal because I already know what my usual dream signs are... but it's not very "strange". Almost all my dreams take place in a public areas that normally have a lot of people, such as a mall, college campus, train station, hospital... all seemingly normal situations.

i have also began taking vitamin B6 recently. The first night, I accidently took 400mg because I bought both B6 and B12 at a store (couldn't remember which one I was suppose to get so I got both) and I got the bottles mixed up and ended up taking 2 of the 200mg B6 instead of one of each.

Anyways, I don't know if the fact that I went to sleep 3 hours after I took it (you're suppose to take it 30 mins before you go to sleep), or just took way too much. I had dreams, but they were no more than usual. However, I took 100mg last night of B6 combined with a B12 pill (apparently, these 2 work well together so I'm glad i bought both of them) and I remember about 5 dreams last night, however, none of them lucid.

i did notice a reoccuring dream sign... it's always the location like I stated earlier, but it is very difficult for me to think "Hey this isn't normal..." when it is. I need crazier dream signs!!

The vitamins help that much? I might go buy some this week.

And kitten, you and I are similar in that respect, my dreams can also be very normal, though weirdly enough I usually get suspicious of my more normal dreams over my stranger ones. And I have had some very strange dreams. That said, don't discount your normal dreams and hope for weirder ones, it may in the mundane that you find something to make you lucid
