Do you really have to be asleep to be lucid?

I had this idea. I have asked another person about it too.

Wouldn't it be cool if we could do this. I am pretty sure we can using meditation to achieve lucidity. I am not sure if I was sleeping or accidentally meditating. I have a lucid dream (or day dream)... I thought I was awake the whole time outside of the dream. I was laying down however. When people meditate they ignore all things outside of thier mind. After doing that you can see and feel things with your imagination. I am going to work on this at least. First I need to learn how to meditate. But I believe it is very possible.

Well, tell me what you think.

Yes, it is possible. I've read articles and heard stories of older monks who were able to do just what you described, but only after perfecting their meditation skills.

Well, i am only 19 so you could say I have a lot of it left. At least it is possible for me to have a much longer life. People older than I am would give anything to have the chance I have. I have the chance to do so many things. I am at the beginning of the start of my life. Where do I start I guess I could ask. What would you do with the greater amount of time?

What most people do is not become aware of everything they have when they are young. These monks who do the things they do start at a very young age. When you are younger you think you have so much time and there is no reason to use it up when it seems endless. As you become older you realize more and more that there is so little time left and you wish you would have used it up when you were younger. Well, I plan to take advantage of what I have.

Right now I am starting to focus on meditation. I want to learn how to be able to do that very well. I am only one day one but I already think I notice a difference. I have many things to do in what amount of time I have. I want to devote all I can. I need the willpower to do it now. I have some of it and will get more.

Well, I am straying too much off topic I think. Anyways, you could always look at life as being the same no matter the length. You are still able to accomplish as much as others. It takes more dedication. Anyways, good luck finding out how to best use your time to become what you want.

If I had it to do over again, say from 19. I would have put off college for a few years and joined some organization like the peace corp and traveled a little more. Or perhaps college first and then peace corp.
I did learn about LD whan I was 20, but didn't do anything with it for 10 years. What a waste!
I am just now in the last 5 years or so beginning to study meditation and altered states of conciousness.

I would have spent more time with my younger sister. She died this year at only 39.

One thing I wouldn't change though, I have a great family. My oldest is 15

      ---EDIT---
Been thinking about it, college first, then peace corps. I finished my first degree when I was 19. I went back and started working on my next when I was 30. It was a lot easier the first time!

It indeed takes alot of time and devotion,i'd say if you really wanna go down that road. I made about a 180* spin in my lifestyle.
I now try meditate everyday something between 15 minutes and 1 hour depending on how much time i have, working on my journal and interprenting my dreams takes about 30 mins a day
I also have to reflect on my dreamweek every week analyzing what methods I used and what were most succesfull so I can make a next month schedule to ultimately find out what methods an circumstances work best for me.

On top of that I still gotta do disipline exerises, occasionally work out(the health of the body adds in the health of the mind) and of course there is school/work..add that up i'd say pretty time consuming..not to mention trying to be aware all day carefully observing everything you see..

Another down side is that thigns such as going out, getting drunk and partying really have a bad effect on you,at least on me it does,it really trows me of balance i'd say,so I dont do that much either..not that I really like it..

I'm sure I could have done it at twelve...

anyway, heck, I'm lucid all the time, and I hope to God everyone one else is, especially while driving!
