      Smile Reality check not working?

      Hey everyone.

I'm a first timer to the Dream Views forum, but have been exploring the dream realm in depth for the past week or so.

I'd always thought I was one who didn't have dreams so lately, I've been working on my dream recall, with great success.

But I came to a dream last night that wierded me out.

I set my alarm for 4.5hrs after I went to sleep in an attempt to jar myself awake in the middle of a dream. I don't remember hearing it but I think it affected me in my dream.

Anyways, so I was in the middle of this dream and I end up sitting in a car. I asked myself "Am I dreaming?" and looked at the digital clock on the dash to confirm it. I've read that the numbers would be blurry or different or something like that, a confirmation that I was dreaming. The problem was that the time was correct and steady. I looked again, and the only difference was that a minute had gone by. This confused me because I was sure that I was in a dream before, but to see the clock so steady took me back into the thinking that it was reality.

Has anyone else had this happen to them? I'd heard that this was a reliable reality check but now I'm thinking that may not be the case for me.

Any advice for when something like this happens so that I can become lucid?

      Thanks.

Yeah, it's happened to me before. So i use the nose-plug RC, it never fails.

I'm guessing if I hold my nose in the dream, I would still be able to breathe through it?

That's happened to me before plenty of times. Now when i do clock reality checks I always look at the clock twice and reaffirm that if it changes in any manner at all, than I am dreaming. Also, when I finish my reality check, I look around to see if everything is normal and nothing is too out of place.
Paprika: Don't you think dreams and the Internet are similar? They are both areas where the repressed conscious mind vents.

John Lennon: I believe in everything until it's disproved. So I believe in fairies, the myths, dragons. It all exists, even if it's in your mind. Who's to say that dreams and nightmares aren't as real as the here and now? Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.

Memory test is impossible to fail. Think back over the last two hours, what did you do, how did you get to where you are now? If you can't answer either of those then you're dreaming.
