      effects of antidepressants

I've been on an antidepressant for almost half a hear now, and I haven't had any "real" lucid dreams since before then. I have had dreams where I technically know I'm dreaming, but I don't really have any conscious control, and these are really only recently. Before the depression, I had 2 full blown awesome LDs where I was pretty much fully aware. is the medication affecting my ability to LD?

It might be. Though my lucid dreams were as normal when I was on anti depressants for a couple of years. Also, some anti depressants have "abnormal dreams" as a side effect, I know mine did, though that didn't happen to me.

I agree with Luminous that some antidepressants may be more likely to effect your dreams. I take anti-dipressants and tons of LDs, some with little control and some with god-like control.

Some anti-depressants can increase the concentration of the neurotransmitter Serotonin in the brain. This can then be metabolised into Melatonin, which has been reported to increase REM activity and the vividness of dreams. ^_^

I'm on prozac to be specific, and caused disruptions in my sleep when I was first taking it. so I've been taking melatonin as a sleeping aid to counteract it. my dream vividness isn't different from before.
