      how do i stop dreaming?

so this may be adverse to what everyone else is talking about here, but i cant find an answer anywhere, let alone a solution. i am having terribly involved and intense dreams that i do not want. i woudnt call them nightmare, theres no monsters or serial killers. its more about random family members and friends, events from the past, and general anxiety in many different forms. it is affecting my conscious reality and i am becoming more and more agitated in my daily life over what goes on while i sleep. i am tired after these dreams and i feel like i was actually awake and moving for extended periods of time. i have always been a lucid dreamer, but until recently i didnt know that everyone else wasn't also. i can control my self to a point in these states but i can never control the environment, or outcome. i researched into finding a pill or a combination of herbal remedies that could curb or hopefully stop me from dreaming whatsoever, but i now know this is not feasible. i know that im new here but this is the most professional and well organized place that i could find to post a serious question. if anyone has any info for me please help, it will be very appreciated.

      sincerely

Hey welcome to DreamViews. I'm not really sure how to help you, but I will just say that it would probably be wiser to change your dreams to better things rather than trying to stop dreaming completely. Also I have heard that dreams are a vital part of our lives and there could be mental effects without them so be careful.

the mental effects with them seem worse at the moment. im more upset that i am tierd all the time than i am that i hate my dreams. i wish there was a way that i could set a tone at least so that the ouutcome of the dreams could me easier to wake up to.

Are there any things in your life that you feel are causing this, such as watching violent movies or video games? It could also be a fear you have about messing things up. Also if you lucid dream then you should be able to tell yourself that it is a dream and that you have the power to change the situations or at least face them without any worry of physical harm. Usually the best way to get over a fear or phobia is to face it head on and get it over with. Alot of people who have a recurring nightmare do this. For example if a person has a nightmare about being chased by a monster alot then the next time they have the dream they can recognize they are dreaming and maybe turn around and stand up to the monster which will usually turn out not to be a monster after all. Then alot of times the dream won't happen anymore.

that actually makes alot of sense. i do have the fear of failure still in life. i am a recent college grad, and i just started working professionally in my field, and it is quite challenging. as for the violence though, that is normal. i love harror movies and have a fascination with sadistic cultures, dont worry im not a crazy goth im an art student. thanks for the feedback ill definitley try to focus on something more prevalent and hopefully i will have better results.
