      Whoa! What was that about?

Last night, I tried to "trick my body into falling asleep" with the help of a thread I found here in this forum. (http://www.dreamviews.com/community/...ad.php?t=42271)

So, anyways, I was laying down in bed when I summoned my subconscious. We had the same old usual conversations, and I was telling him that I was going to try to trick my body into falling asleep.

So, I was laying down and trying not to move, even though I had a really bad urge to turn over in my bed and get in a more comfortable position. I didn't budge, and pretty soon I started feel my muscles "twitching" and my foot fell asleep. I could feel the blood circulation in my hands, and this was starting to really annoy me. I ignored these distractions, and pretty soon they just vanished.

I suddenly started feeling a strange presence sweep over my body, and that was when I realized my body was falling asleep. The darkness of my eyelids become even darker, and I felt extremely relaxed. I did it! I was falling asleep!

All of a sudden, I began hearing very weird sounds... Sounds that come from inside of your head, but it seems like you can hear them physically.

Soon enough, I heard someone yell very loudly in my bedroom, the voice was that of an older man with a harsh yell. It said something along the lines of, "THE PRESIDENT!" I jumped up from my bed and turned on the t.v. I tried to fall back asleep again, and I tricked my body again. I began hearing strange sounds again, only this time I was suddenly stricken with a chainsaw going off next to my ear instead of a person yelling.

I jumped up... Again... And then tried to fall back asleep. Within minutes I had already tricked my body to falling asleep again, and I was entering the sleep phase. Suddenly, my bed began to shake violently and I heard the springs snapping (and of course this was just in my head!). I jumped up from my bed, and decided I wasn't going to do trick my body again until I really knew what I was doing...

So here I am now with a few questions.

      1) What are these disturbances? Why do they seem so real even though they are just in my head?

      2) Is this normal? (Have any of you guys gone through similar experiences when trying to sleep?)

      3) How can I avoid or overcome these disturbances?
