Boy after school naps are the best

Hey Dreamviews what's up, I'm Silverant.

I've been reading this site for a while, but haven't had any lucid experiences till this afternoon. It was triggered by Hypnagogic sensations of a crowded school hallway. Some girl bumped into me, I turned around and kissed her. All of a sudden i think "how am i doing this!?" and i "fall" into a new scene, where I am laying down on the ground in the hallway, and people are looking at me. I open my (astral?) eyes and try to get up. THen i lose my vision but am in like intense SP. I tell myself to calm down and focus. I re enter but then to try and become more stable, I yell "clarity!" (lol I was reading Clarity's posts earlier today). That immediately woke me up.

So, i'm really happy that i finally got into LD World (first time since i was like 7).
What makes it so afternoon naps are so effecient at making you lucid? Is it going to be easier for me to recognize sleep states at night now? lol

I'm thinking next time I'm in this situation, I'm going to try to be very patient. I'm not going to try and get up too soon, just lay down and absorb the world until i am fully a part of it. Do I have it right? Any other suggestions? How could i have turned today into a full fledged lucid dream?

I find naps much easier to become lucid during.
Congratulations on your lucid dream, my first one was like that too!

You become lucid, and then you're super excited and can't wait to start experiencing your dream, but that just makes you wake up!

You just have to be patient, take a minute to ground yourself in your dream and really take in everything around you. That helps keep you focused and lucid.

Good job on your lucid dream!

Welcome to the forums. Check out the New Members - Quick Start Guide written by Burns. There's some really useful information in there. Also, if you haven't already, you may want to check out some of the tutorials. They might help you get a few more lucid dreams.

Other than that, try keeping a dream journal if you haven't already. It does wonders for dream recall and ability to become lucid in the long run.

Preaching aside... feel free to ask any questions and make yourself at home.

      Welcome to DreamViews!!!

So, anyway, that's a lot of questions... I'll try to answer them to the best of my abilities.

I remember reading something to do with REM sleep coming by earlier on afternoon naps, but I might be wrong about that. It's been a long time since I read the article. It might also have to do with the fact that you don't get in such a deep sleep as you do at night time.

I'm guessing you're trying to ask if it's going to be easier for you to recognize that you're dreaming. I'll answer this by giving a personal example:
After my first lucid dream, I thought "omg, I get it now! Now I know what dreams are like, and I'll for sure know right away the next time I'm dreaming." But that wasn't the case.
It might get a bit easier, but you'll probably still have to keep doing reality checks and different techniques for your lucid dreams to come by. Unless you're one of the lucky natural lucid dreamers...

You answered your own question. I would say the best thing for you to do next time, is to stay calm. Absorb the world, and not do anything until you feel like the dream is stable.
Some techniques for this are spinning, rubbing your hands together, or yelling out something like "increase lucidity" but that last one didn't seem to work for you. Basically, just try not to get too excited until your dream becomes stable.
Your lucid dream lasted a lot longer than most people's first lucid. For me, it took about 4 lucid dreams before they started lasting more than 1-second. haha.

Tyrantt thank you. That was the best response/welcome I've ever gotten. I've been keeping a dream journal for a few weeks (been having a dry spell for 6 days though). What are some things (other than reality checks) that can help me improve my chances for a WILD? I think I'm doing reality checks wrong. LIke, how are you supposed to train yourself to think "am i dreaming?"

Also, how does marijuana impact lucid dreaming?
