      The voices in my Head

First of all I'm going to say that i'm not insane or at least I don't think I am.
The voices I'm talking about are a strange phenomenon that happens when I'm on the edge of sleep. This may be a common thing I don't know, but I've never heard anyone mention it.
Basically just before fall asleep i begin to hear voices. Just a short sentence or one word and it always has to do with what I'm thinking about. For example if I'm singing a song in my head I will all of a sudden hear the voice of the singer sing aline. Unless ignore the voices they stop.
I would like to stress that I am still perfectly conscious and could wake up at this point and gt out of bed. Also I would like to stress that there is a difference between the "sound" my thoughts make and these voices, which are perfect imitations. It sounds like the speaker is speaking into my mind.
I usually amuse myself by trying to summon specific voices or words while not paying attention to them.(Not easy) After a couple minutes I then fall asleep.
I was wondering if anyone experiences this?

Happens every night with me. I guess it's just another way of your mind wandering. It's soothing to me and I guess it's almost like HI. It's your mind putting you to sleep or trying to at least.

      I get that frequently too.

The precondition is that I'm relaxed, my mind is clear, and I feel like I'm near to falling asleep. Very relaxing to listen to them.

Its normal. Happens to me almost every night.
I find it hard to understand what is being said a lot of the time, I'll just pick up one or two words and the rest is mumbling. If I try to pay more attention, they of course vanish.

Occasionally I'll get it very vividly. Like once I was away from home for a long weekend and the rest of my family were interstate. The next door neighbours were looking after our dog (name is Skip). I was a little worried about whether they'd remember to feed him, and as I was on the edge of sleep I suddenly heard my sisters voice say "You forgot about skip!", it shocked me awake in a snap and then it took me ages to get to sleep

I'm glad i found this post from google!

I just had this happen to me for the first time during the first lucid dream(ing) i ever remember having!

It was kind of scary for me though and it never happened to me before.

It started out when i first realized i was dreaming (my first time!) and was dreaming about a conversation between me, my girlfriend, my brother and his girlfriend in our living room- all the sudden i switched the mannerisms and personalities of my girlfriend with my brothers (i guess for fun, no real meaning there) and laughed as my brothers girlfriend started talking to me like my own girlfriend (same voice and personality).... then all the sudden while trying to change the dream it happened...

I was in a completely white (off white really) room with nothing but a knob in front of me... i knew it was to change the volume somehow. So i turned it up slowly... it began to make that noise you hear in your head phones when you turn the volume up too loud but nothing is making noise (like turning the TV up slowly on a station thats not there- the snowy screen).

Then all the sudden i hear a voice say my name like a strong whisper. It scared the hell out of me so i turned down the volume and woke myself up.

I went back to bed and i was right back in the room, with the knob. I turned it up again but got too scared and before anything happened (other then the white noise getting louder) i woke myself up again.

The whole day i thought i was going crazy! It sounded nothing like a fabricated voice and like no voice i know and so real!

Glad i'm not going crazy! Thanks!

Sounds like that was just a weird dream.
So no, your not crazy, not by a long shot

However, what we're talking about here is hearing things when your awake but on the verge of sleep. A little bit different, but both are very normal, so nothing to worry about.
