      Afraid to Lucid Dream

Are there any of you who ever get scared to lucid dream?

I used to be quite into lucid dreaming about a year ago, and stopped only after I had a few nasty experiences with it.
After a while I began to lucid dream all the time, every night, especially when I didn’t want to. On one occasion i was sent into a lucid dream with the sensation of boulders falling on my head. Once in the dream, whenever I would fall down I would get that same sensation. I eventually woke up, and was quite freaked out by it, how real the falling boulders felt on my head, that I didn’t really want to go back to sleep.
But again the same sensation came, and again I slipped into a lucid dream.
This happened about several times in that one night, with a fair few false awakenings too.
After that It took me a few days to really know whether I was awake or still dreaming.
And I didn’t want to lucid dream anymore. And after about a week, with a large amount of sleep loss, my lucid dreams stopped.

Only recently I have become interested again, and decided I would join a forum, while keeping a dream journal, to see what other peoples experiences are and have been like. hopefully it will ease my fears of lucid dreaming.
Has anyone had any similar experiences?

Yes, I've had many scary incidences within lucid dreams.

You shouldn't be afraid. Try to remember the fact that whatever happens in your dreams is not real. Once you overcome your fears, it'll be amazing to realize all the things you can do. I don't know how much you have experimented in lucid dreams, but that realization alone should motivate you well enough.

I dont think that trying to talk you out of your fears will do much. So instead I'm just going to tell you to face your fears on your own. If you end up not wanting to LD after all... I guess it's no big deal, but if you can just go for it, I'm sure you'll find that there's not much to fear about lucid dreaming. If the bad experiences start up again, at least you can say you tried, right? good luck!

Yeah I suppose I should just give it another shot.
I can’t help but always think of those people that die in their sleep from unknown causes though, what if they were lucid dreaming?
That thought freaks me the hell out.

Thank you both for your replies

There's nothing to be afraid of about LDing. Either you have them or you don't, there's no after effects or backlash. You just keep on trying to have them until you do and then keep trying until you have another one. It's that simple and safe....

I used to be afraid of the sleep paralysis that comes before and after lucid dreams. I wasn't afraid of being paralyzed but that sense of mortal dread and watching evil I sometimes felt inprinted fear in me. I knew it wasn't real, but to me that didn't make a differece. Kind of hard to explain- being afraid but knowing you'll be all right.
