      Worse than a nightmare...

Alright, I used to expiriment a lot with lucid dreaming, and I really enjoyed it...of course lol. It's an amazing experience when achieved properly.

Well, I haven't fooled with it for the past 6 months or so, and then today, I had an absolutely terrifying experience.

      Here's the story:

I went to sleep last night at like 2am, and woke up at 8am. I didn't wanna get up.

Now, being home alone today, I had the option to lay back down and get some more R & R. I did some laundry and hit the hay again about 45 mins to an hour later.

And now I can honestly say that the past hour and a half (its 10:30 now) has been pure hell.

It started out simple. I began to fall asleep and I immediately knew that I was dreaming when the dream began to come...before it even came on completely. Ugh, it gives me the chills just repeating it. It wasn't a dream of a different scape and there were no visuals yet...I could feel my body in my bed, but my mind felt very cluttered suddenly as if I was stoned or something and I began hearing voices.

I heard my brother calling my name, my mom chewing me out about something, and random voices saying things to me. And all this time, I could still feel my extremly tingly body and inside my body my turbulent heart racing away. It was much worse than a nightmare...because the dream wouldn't come on now, it laid dorment just a hair away, and I laid trying my hardest to wake up. That was the worst part.

When I tried to move the body I felt...TORMENTINGLY strong sensations overtook my body and it felt as If I had tingly liquid pouring over my skin and I felt pins and needles and I felt numb and all this at the same time. It was like my body was confused by me feeling it while I was supposed to be feeling my dream body.

Well, I continued to try and jerk my body, but it was to no avail. It only worsened the situation and seemed to make my heart fly at a very unnatural rate. Can you imagine how scary this was?

      I was stuck in between.

Well, I finally would either wake up or fall into a dream. Most times I would know it was a dream still, and I would instantly start to see the dream fade and feel my body again, but not be able to control it.

Well, throughout this experience, I was jerked into this "IN BETWEEN" state probably around 10 or 12 times. Ugh.

Once, I remember opening my eyes...obviously I only opened my dream eyes...and my dog was HUGE and sitting there with demon eyes staring at me. I swear I almost had a heart attack.

BUT I KNOW that I felt my real body, and that everything was real except my vision and hearing! Its hard to explain...but you know.

Well, I eventually succeeded in moving my left arm...but it didn't wake me up, and it felt extremely weird. I daringly opened my eyes again, only to see my arm laying still...but it was the same shirt I was wearing when I fell asleep, and it was the same position...so maybe it was my real eyes seeing my body, but my dream body feeling as if my arm was moving. Or, even scarier, the other way around...

Then the room got dark suddenly and I knew it was my dream eyes now.

The sensation wouldn't leave my body and I tried to jerk it to awaken myself, but I very, VERY rarely succeeded. It only made the in between state worse.

FINALLY, the phone rang, and I thought I wasn't gonna be able to come out again! But something about the noise brought me to, and I am so thankful to finally be awake.

Is that not some weird crap? Anyone have any similar experiences, maybe any tips, advice, or even just an explanation of what the hell that was!?!?!!?

      Thanks.

Based on what you've described I'm 99% sure you've experienced something like WILD onset, exept you became scared and ruined things for yourself.

I had some *VERY* unpleasant WILD onsets myself
Voices are very common, but they usually try to confuse me or wake me up (and they sound so damn real). Pain and torturing sensations are somewhat common. I remember vomiting in a dream and recalling some very unpleasant sensations.
However I know all pain is "dream" pain and it cant hurt me and it will gone and my body in unharmed.

Thinking this way helps to get past WILD onset and enter dream very soon.

It sounds like you werent targetting anywhere, so you kinda expected this state to continue...

One experience was pretty close to what you've described - I just laid in bed, experiencing onset, after about 1.5 minutes I decided to get up. Sure enough, it was a dream... I became scared and tried to call for light, but failed.
Finally I decided to escape my dark room and got up from the bed. A white dragonlike creature attacked me , but my fear turned into rage and I beat the shit out of it, and then woke up...

for some reason this thread makes me want to say:

"you must master your fear, or fear will become your master."

ie; you should have just relaxed!
I spilled spot remover on my dog. He's gone now.

happens to me, also, and yeah, its scary as hell... if you dont know what's going on
Here in mexico, this state is called superstitionally "que se te suba el muerto" which roughly translates as "when the dead (single) climb upon you"
and its related to that feeling of impotence of sensing ur real body while dreaming you are awake. You cant scream, you cant move your real body and you feel a heavy weight climbing from your feet to your chest.
      I hate when that happens
      Cipreses, agua estancada
      Chopos, agua cristalina
      Mimbre, agua profunda
      Corazon, agua de pupila

You should try relaxing and just going with it. It really sound like most of the problem is from trying to force yourself awake. So just lay back and relax and you should be fine.

As for the phone, any real sounds will wake you up. Your body is made to wake up if something happens to you so anything that would normally wake you up should still wake you up while your lucid. Know that you don't have to worry if any of the stuff you feel or hear is real because if it doesn't wake you, its not real.

      ummm I can explain that

okay, I"m korean and in my country I think we call that, interpreted, "scissors". I heard this happens when your mind woke up but my body's still dreaming? I guess. It usually happens when you are really tired and your body becomes unconscious. You usually get out this "scissors" mode when someone touches you and wakes you up. Now, looking from sites, I noticed that you can have fun with these kind of dreams by simply concentrating on better stuff, almost like a lucid dream
