Thread: I have a huge problem... Help?

So, im a U.S. soldier in Iraq. now you'd think we have an exciting and action driven life but that is the exact opposite of what we go through day to day in certain areas of iraq. my life is do dull, and depressing here, that im starting to develope some problems that need attention immediatly.
Problem: i know dreams can be a wonderful and wild experience... but im starting to have trouble distingishing my dreams from my reality. it's kind of like im teetering on two different realities and it's starting to lean toward the dream world if you will.
help?

Probably because your day to day life is so dull and depressing your mind is using your dreams as a way to escape from it all.
You arent teetering on the edge of 'two realities' because dreaming isnt REAL.
If the feelings persist, and it does get to the point where you can no longer distinguish between waking reality and dreaming, I would recommend seaking professional help.
Maybe learning to lucid dream would help, because then you could control your dreams, and you might be able to distinguish your dreams from reality much easily.
Until you get a healthy state of mind, these feelings will most likely persist.

Learning to LD might really help you. The reason behind this is that in an LD you are able to control your dream. You can also test yourself to see if you are dreaming. (Pinching yourself to feel pain, or holding your breath without any adverse reaction are good indicators that help me in an LD.
If you are aware that you have a problem, then you are more than likely not Psychotic, but you may wish to seek professional help all the same. Dreaming can help you overcome the mudane problems of life, but you have to have a real life too. If you don't have a real life, then your dreams will become just as stale as your real boring life. However, I do think that if you are a soldier in Iraq then you will have professional help available to you and I believe that you should seek that help.

Lucid dreaming doesnt always help in this kind of situation; for alot of people it will blur the line even more.

If you truly feel something is wrong the best thing you can do talk to someone who actually knows what they are talking about. No harm done by going and getting checked out.

although i do wanna know what those dang visions are that i see nonstop during sleep paralysis. are they physical manifestations of my thoughts, like a slideshow... or nothing like that?

they are hypergognic(or something like that) imagery. I do believe that your brain projects these images to help you fall asleep. If the images are abstract then the logical part of the brain is falling asleep.

As said before those visions are hynagogic imagry. Science has suggested that these images are your brain preparing to form new connections in your memory as you sleep. Kind of like a rapid slide show of some how related information. The images seem random since these "connections" go back over your whole life.
