Thread: Are we more intelligent while lucid dreaming?

I belive that while lucid dreaming we are more capable of productive thinking. I once read that Tibetan monks achieve LD's trying to attain "enlightenment". I think that most/(not all) of us LD just to have fun and be "gods" of our own world. But if we use this world where we are gods where nothing distracts us from anything else, than is it true that we are more capable of understanding abstract ideas such as: geometrical figures that can be thought up and seen in our dreams, mathematical questions that can be written on a board, and not only!?I just thought that our level of concentration could be/much higher in our own "world" than in the one we live in. I just wanted to know what do you think about this... Thanks for any input!

First of all, to DV.

I've heard of what you're talking about. I can't remember where I first heard of it, but it's something I want to try in a future LD; things like mathematics, composing music, just thinking about complex ideas, and the like.

Hahah I feel like I'm a lot less capable of higher reasoning and thinking in an LD.

That said though, it is not unheard of for artists of all sorts to be inspired by their dreams (non-lucid and lucid alike). I think more than unlocking intelligence, lucid dreams are an expression of the mind's unbridled creativity.

But it is an interesting concept nevertheless. Maybe once I get on a more regular LD schedule I'll try doing mathematical calculations and whatnot.

could we be more intelligent? possibly. Do I think that we are? no.


edit: Actually I change my mind, I dont think we are any more intelligent in our dreams, I dont see why we would be. Are we able to reach more of our intelligence? possibly.

Yeah I also think this is most likely true. Albert Einstein and Nikola Tesla both used lucid dreaming as their mental laberatory, and look where it got them! Einstein discovered general relativity theory through lucid dreaming, and Nikola Tesla made all his inventions in his dreams. He's the guy who made it possible to power the whole world. Without him, we wouldn't have electricity! Dreams ftw.

The thing is, those people were brilliant when in the waking world.

You're the smartest person in your universe when lucid dreaming. That does not, however, mean you are any more intelligent than your dream characters, or even that you seem equally intelligent or more intelligent than your waking self. My LD self is incredibly inimaginative, and not particularly bright (despite my intelligence in the waking world).

No I don't think so. The Tibetan monks cannot be compared to us normal people because we lack mental discipline. If you lack that in real life being lucid will also be the same. But in normal dreams yes more productive because we are not lucid and so do not bring the undisciplined trait with us. My opinion anyways because Thomas Edison got the filament material for his light bulb from a dream and there was no mention of lucidity....

I dont think its intelligence that becomes lesser or greater, rather the way we think and creativity, our dreams inspire us.
