Lucid Dreamer - Computer Audio Device

      Download Lucid Dreamer

      Hey everyone.

I've seen these types of programs over the internet but have never liked the interface, the inability to customize sounds, time before sending another audio cue, and some don't include a countdown timer device. I've been working with programming lately and decided to try my hand at making an audio cue program.

I've never actually used one myself, and my computer is currently not located near enough to my bed in order to test it, but I would very much appreciate it if a few of you could play the role of the guinea pig. I'm assuming that these types of programs do work, but if not, please give me the heads up. I would also very much enjoy suggestions on how to improve or rework the program to suit a more universal need. I'll most likely give it a go myself in a few days, but until then I would like to rework it as much as possible in order to optimize its capabilities.

      --------------------------------------------------

      1. Introduction

This program is designed to make use of audio cues in order to successfully induce a lucid
dreaming state. The program works by using a hit or miss type approach in which the user guesses
when he or she enters into the rapid eye movement stage of sleep and then plays a sound that will
alert them that they are dreaming, but not wake them up.

This program was designed to be more intuitive then the other lucid dreaming programs I have seen
out there. Instead of providing only one or two sounds for the user to choose from, you are allowed
to use any .wav sound file out there. This makes customization very easy and will hopefully allow
the user to pick a sound that is right for them. Of course, the program also comes with a built in
Windows warning sound - in case you do not wish to use a sound of your own.

      --------------------------------------------------

      2. Instructions

Use of the program is simple and the usage instructions are built right in to the interface.

      From the program itself:
\"This program will allow a user to
      input a defined number of
minutes and seconds of time in
      order to successfully send a
audio cue once he or she has
      enter into rapid eye movement
      sleep.

      Under the control group you
should see an option for 'Number
      of Minutes' and 'Number of
      Seconds'. These will allow you
to define when the program will
send a audio cue. The typical
      dreamer enters into REM sleep
      about ninety minutes after going
to bed. With this in mind, you
      can define exactly when you
want the program to fire in order
      to fit the user.

      The 'Repeat Timer' option will
      repeat the original number of
      minutes and seconds specified by
the user and will fire the sound
again after that time has elapsed.
The 'Sound Again' option will fire
the sound again after the time
      amount specified; but only after
      the countdown timer has finished.
The 'Generic Beep Sound' is a
      simple cue, but the 'Choose
Sound' allows the user to specify a
      particular sound off of their
      hard-drive.

The clear button will stop the
      current timers and calculations
and reset all of the input boxes.
Also, the 'Test Sound' button will
allow you to preview the selected
      sound before you begin the
      countdown. Please make sure you
      press the 'Choose Sound'
checkbox as well, if you plan on
      using the selected one.

      The 'Countdown Timer' displays
the number of minutes left until the
sound cue is played. This box will
      reset itself automatically if you
      choose the 'Repeat Timer' option.
      The 'Sound Again' text box
displays the amount of time left
until the sound cue is played
again. When you first begin the
countdown, it will add the number
      of minutes in the 'Countdown
Timer' to the number of minutes
that you specified until it plays the
      sound again. After the 'Sound
Again' timer reaches zero, it will
play the sound and then start
back at the original number of
      minutes you inputed. For example,
if you were to type ninety minutes
into the 'Number of Minutes' box,
and two minutes into the 'Sound
Again' box, the sound again timer
      would wait ninety two minutes
      before playing the sound, and
      then another two minutes each
      time after.

This program was created by Tyler
      Wynn. Thanks for using it.\"

      --------------------------------------------------

      3. Known Issues

The program will give you a 'Device not found' type error if you attempt to choose a drive with
nothing on it; such as a disc drive without a disc in it.

The program can only accept about 32000 minutes for each box.

      --------------------------------------------------

      4. Bug Fixes

None yet. Please contact me at [email protected] if you find any errors.

Why, thank you, Dreamscape! I've now reached my way up to bastard on the ladder of success!

As for the audio cue program, I am in the same boat with my computer location, but I tried out the interface and stuff-- works nice.

      Hahaha!
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is the source of all true art and science. He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead: his eyes are closed."
      - Albert Einstein
"We're so engaged in doing things to achieve purposes of outer value that we forget the inner value, the rapture that is associated with being alive, is what it is all about."
      -Joseph Campbell
"He who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilisation should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder."

Give it time-- others might start using it.

Also, you could post it on VersionTracker (http://www.versiontracker.com) and you'd get a bunch of people to try it out!
