      Making yourself sleep

K, so, I have problems making myself sleep sometimes, is there anything you can do that helps this?

      (not melatonin )

Sometimes drinking (chocolate) milk makes me fall asleep faster (I'm pretty sure it's a proven fact that it helps). Try not to move around too much or think about anything serious or stressful. Don't drink anything with caffeine if you plan to go to sleep soon. That's just about all I know that might help, aside from buying a better bed or taking sleep pills.
There was also a topic in the lounge about how masturbating helps some people also....

      That's the best advice!
Sitting on ur butt in front of a computer all day hardly helps.

Right now I'm in college, getting about 8hrs of sleep and I returned to my old sleeping patterns (like when I was about 14-15). That is I sleep whole night like a baby and remember dreams onlly in the mornings...

And it takes like 20 min to fall asleep!

Try reading before you go to sleep, I find that it helps although I'm usually reading for about two hours which can be tiring.

So true. If you stay active all day long, I doubt sleep will be an issue.

You could try doing something that you associate with sleeping, things that you don't do during the day but only at night. For example, read one book before bed or listen to a couple songs that you only listen to when going to bed or something along those lines. I've heard it's bad to read/study in bed when you don't plan on going to sleep because then the bed no longer becomes an object associated with sleep. So, only sleep in it. If you need to do something in your bedroom, sit on the floor or on a chair so that you (subconsciously, also) recognize the bed as a place for sleeping and when you lie down you will be prepared to sleep.

......I need to try that some more, but it's been known to work.

not always true about a hard day's working and getting to sleep easily. I recently had been having great difficulty getting to sleep. I would be dead tired and my body aching it wanted to sleep so much, but the mind would not let us.

After struggling with many many nights of laying in bed for hours before I could get to sleep, I found that now I can usually get to sleep pretty quick if I lay on my stomach. Before, for I dunno how many years, I always went to sleep at night on my back and on my stomach during the day for a nap, and couldn't do it vice-versa... But it is true what they say and things do change. I tried on my stomach one night out of desperation and it worked and has been working.

So maybe try getting to sleep in a different position than you are accustomed to at night?

If it continues for long periods of time and you are unable to find the cause or a solution on your own, consider seeking professional help from someone in the field. There is nothing fun or funny about insomnia.

sleepin on my side always knocks me out fast, i can sleep on my stomach only if I am dead tired. I also find sleepin on my back, seems to be the best for dreaming, WILD, HILD, and any other of those things..

What usually works for me is focusing on my breathing. Dream-Scape, you may also try stretching exercises or calisthenics along with a focus on breathing. Do this on the floor before climbing into bed. This usually relaxes one pretty well both physically and mentally. As you lie in bed on the back, try wiggling your toes slightly, then imagining a warmth moving upward from your toes, gradually upwards towards the crown of your head and back again. Doing this back and forth while focusing on the rhythm of your breathing can also help one relax when mentally too alert to fall asleep. It even works sometimes if you're on a stimulant like caffeine.
