hey everyone. I used to use my alarm clock to wake myself up in the middle of my sleep, (you know, to catch myself in the deep dreaming state), but that doesnt work anymore. i subconsciously turn it off, so it seems like i am waking up without it even going off. I will just randomly wake up like way after it went off, and in my sleep, automatically turned it off.
Do not try and bend the spoon--that's impossible. Instead only try and realize the truth...there is no spoon. Then you will see that it is not the spoon that bends
There is no greater joy than soaring high on the wings of your dreams, except maybe the joy of watching a dream who has nowhere to land but in the ocean of reality.
Damn I just wrote a whole bunch without properly reading your post. I was all set to move it too when I realized the end part of the sentence I just woke up haha, proof that I shouldn't resent my alarm clock while I'm groggy!
Spoiler for how to wake up in general if you screw around with your alarms in your sleep:
I usually don't have this problem, but when I'm REALLY tired I do tend to screw around with my alarm clocks and either oversleep or fall back asleep for a few minutes and then wake up having a heart attack because I think it's noon. Usually this happens because I was up all night preparing for something big, so it's imperative that I get up on time... here's what I do:
I use my cell phone as a regular alarm. It's got 4 different alarms you can program in and most do, so set that to whatever you like. I keep it plugged in and right next to my head on my bed.
I have another alarm clock for those 'special occaisions' where I can't afford to over sleep. I put it on my laptop (since I rarely use it and my neighbors would not appreciate if I left it to go off all morning while I showered). I always check my email first thing in the am, and it's far enough away that I have to get my butt out of bed to turn it off. Usually what I do is set the cell for, say, 5:50 am. Then I set the real alarm clock for 6:00. If all goes according to plan, I wake up, turn both off, and go on with my morning. If I somehow turn off the cell, then the other one wakes me up and I have to get out of bed to take care of it. I also panic and get a little adrenaline rush by realizing that if it's going off, it means I'm already running late heh
Um on to your point though. I think what works for a lot of people is putting a cell phone, if you have one, on vibrate and in your sock. Most people do this if they have a significant other who'll be woken up by their WBTBs. Anyway when it goes off you will HAVE to reach down and pull it out of your sock. Just try to get into the habit of waking yourself up enough that you don't just conk right back out. Maybe just look around, or do some math problems, or recite a poem, or dance a little bit in your bed so you aren't in that ridiculously groggy state more than you need to be. Maybe eventually your body will learn that if it feels buzzing on the foot (ideally it would ring and buzz imo), it means it's time to get up and not pass back out.
