      gabapentin

i just started on a new medication - gabapentin (neurontin). it works in a similar way to GABA but alot more strong. I only got about 2 hours sleep last night but i had the most vivid nightmare which i still am unsure of whether it was a nightmare or a hallucination. have to increase dose so see what happens tonight..
anyone else on this? its for epilepsy/migraine/neuropathic pain/bipolar..could be called something else in other countries. cheers

its called the same thing in the US, but i have not had any experienc with it. perhaps it only has effects on people's dreams if they need to take it for a cure for something, but then again the specific action of the ddrug is rather vague because it has the potential to act on so many parts of the brain, i notice usually whenever i take a new drug my drams are significantly different so maybe once you get used to the drufg it will no longer effect your dreams.

The precise mechanism of action of Gabapentin is not exactly known.

The inactive ingredients for the oral solution are glycerin, xylitol, purified water and artificial cool strawberry anise flavor. Gabapentin chemical name is 1-(aminomethyl)cyclohexaneacetic acid. It's molecular formula is C9H17NO2 and has a molecular weight of 171.24.

There is no visible correlating neurological effects of Gabapentin with dreaming. It can cause clear thoughts and allow for subconscious thoughts to arise.. I suppose.

So this could mean that there are several problems on your mind that are truly troubling you - not the drug.

      Hope I've been enlightening.

      O'nus, your posts are great!

That was all off the top of your head?

Probably not, why anybody would remember a word (or spell a word) like "cvniuhfiujxx" is beyond me, but he certainly goes beyond the call of duty for his posts. Go O'nus.

It is off my head actually.. I feel quite proud and passionate about my studies and work enough to remember simply chemical structures of drugs that have some relevance to the central nervous system. Also, there are common chemicals and ingredients within the pharmaceuticals of CNS drugs.

Maybe someday I will post these things but that is a lot of work..

i feel it is unfortunate that drug companies are able to slap a patent on a chemical structure that has existed for aeons, preventing anyone from using it for 50 years (a period which sometimes seems indefinitely extendible). I do not protest the necessity for an incentive for development of new drugs, but giving corporations a stranglehold on them for human lifetimes seems a bit excessive.

Looking at the structure it appears to me, a fairly basic kind of structure, one that might fit into any number of receptors to some degree. Is this correct O'nus? i am unfortunately not familiar with the basic/most important neurochemical receptors. (Links would be appreciated for good overviews)

thanks :-) are you a chemist? my doctor is a clueless idiot and id like to know if there are any interactions between gabapentin and serequel (neuroleoptic) not sure of chemical name, something like quintipen?... thanks.
