making a movie... need ur help!

hey all!! i'm starting a movie with some friends taht is gonna be like a matrix inspired movie! it's gonna be great. we made a "practice movie" and it turned out decend. the practice one is only about 2 minutes long and just has me and my "rival" doing some fighting and such. what i am offering 2 u guys is a chance to help co-write it! u will of course be credited for this. the charracters will be:

-Main Good Guy (let's call him Neo)
-2nd REALLY Strong good guy (let's call him morpheus)
-Main Bad Guy (let's call him Smith)
-2 other strong bad guys (something like the Twins or Agents, what ever u'd like)
-a few other "smaller role" characters (aka: secruity guards, cops, Hobo's, whatever... lol)

now if ur still confused in what i'm asking, i want all of u guys 2 give me some input and using the characters above, create a story line. use some creativity, and i may use it for my movie. remember that it can't be 2 fancy as in props and senery and such cuz we dont' have any money 2 spend on it, the real beuity will hopefully be in the fight seenes... the reason i'm asking is cuz we're a bit puzzled on how it should go, so i want u 2 help me fill in the blanks.

thnx, can't wait 2 hear what u guys come up with!!

P.S.- i will have the "practice video" we made for download soon so if u'd like 2 reserve ur copy now or whatever, contact me for it. i'd prefer u e-mail me ( [email protected] )

I can see some big copyright problems too, if it makes even a small amount of money people would be arguing about who wrote what and who's owed what share.

Check out http://www.legislation.hmso.gov.uk/acts/ac...880048_en_1.htm for the UK copyright laws. I guess there's probably a USA equivalent somewhere online, but this should give you an idea of the legalities and problems that could arise. The USA copright laws are 99% the same.

Sorry to be a party pooper

If you still wanted to go ahead with the idea you might be able to get a simple contract with anyone who contributed?

Bah, who cares about money! Do it for the fun of it.

I remember doing a movie once. Lot's of work, but something to be proud of.

Script and shooting order: 1 day
      Sets and props: 1 day
      Shooting: 1 afternoon
      Editting: 5 days

Total of 8 days with 4 people working on it produced a 10 minute video including the bloopers reel, but it was tons of fun!

I totally agree, It's not their motivations/actions that concern me, it's all the 'what if's. what if its a underground/cult/runaway hit? what if they get distibution? What if the story gets bought/stolen by someone? Then, what if the people who own the copyright on the Matrix decide to get involved? Who is liable/responsible? Etc.

I know most people tend to think this sort of approach is unnecessary and OTT, but I worked in intelectual property and regularly saw situations where writers/artists were heading for court, because they didn't have a contract with someone, or someone stole their work, or even in all innocence someone used their work for 'just a project' (as in this instance).

I certainly don't do anything without knowing the copyright implications. Everyone thinks it would be easy to sort out financial matters 'if and when' but it's a lot more difficult to be objective when there's even just a few thousand pounds on the table.

Sorry, rant over. I'll get off my soap box just an emotive topic for me.
