First of all, welcome to Dreamviews
The first thing you need to do is assess your level of lucidity. Are you sure that when you are lucid, you are FULLY lucid? I have had lucid dreams in which I experienced what I call "the haze"; which is to say that while I was relatively conscious, my vision was fuzzy, and I wasn't FULLY aware.
Look around the room you are in at this very moment. Notice each detail, and really feel yourself being aware. Now imagine that it is all in your head. That is what you should feel like in a fully lucid dream. If that is how you feel when you lucid dream, your control issues are a simple issue of confidence, which is usually easily fixed.
You just have to FULLY expect your intended result with whatever it is you're attempting. Making things appear is something that I find extremely easy. What I do is imagine the item that I want to see, and imagine that it is already behind me, and when I turn around, I will see it. The trick to that technique is like any other- you must truly and fully expect to see the object or person behind you when you turn around.
Give that a shot and let us know how it goes. Good luck
