You must first be doing RCs during the day. Regularly. It may take some time for your waking life habits to cross over to the dream world, but if you are faithful during the day, it will happen at night. Also, when you RC during the day, be sure you are asking yourself if you're dreaming. Do not simply answer with, "No, I'm not" otherwise that will be your answer in the dream world, too! Instead, take a moment to examine your surroundings. Look for dreamsigns in the day. All these things should help in performing them at night in your dreams. If you are already doing these things, keep doing them. It will come soon.

Most people recommend to do it every time you see something that you see a lot in dreams. That's a lot of RC's though if you see that a lot. I just do them randomly, but haven't had a LD yet, so maybe it's not working, then again I've been trying for 5 days

Here try the my version of the VILD. Technique.
      heres what I do.

      1. Watch tv listen to music get your mind calm
      2. Lay down, Relax
      3. Concentrate Your mind on what you want to do in your dream
      4. Try a picture a scene with things like RC written on a wall
      5. keep focusing on it for about 10 min
      6. By then IM usually asleep and in my scene

Now that your in your scene, you will probably see the things saying Rc and stuff written on the walls and maybe it will help you remember to perform a reality check.

I got into the simple habit of checking the time twice every time I check. This is several time a day, but doing it isnt any hassle if you get into the habit. Then in a dream, you check the time and notice it changes, or something is wrong. I do is wih my phone and it tends to have "time" written on it instead of the time. A far as dreamsigns go that's the one I've most picked up on.

If you are VILDing, why would you need to reality check? You're already lucid.
