      My reality check failed! Why?

I had this dream, that looked very very real. I was sitting in a classroom and my teacher asked me something. I started calling him names and throwing chairs. A few minutes later I was outside and I realised that I'm very nice and never do that kind of stuff . So I did a reality check, but it failed and the dream continued. What was this? Normally they never fail.

btw, I'm not crazy, my dreams are just cool. They do things that I want to do in RL, but simply can't.

Maybe you had a dream about having a lucid dream, but weren't actually lucid. Maybe you were on the forums or doing something else online related to lucidity, and you had a dream about having a reality check, but weren't actually doing one. Hard to explain, but has happened to me a few times.

Sometimes reality checks just fail. You may need to question reality more than a quick "hit and miss".

maybe your not taking the RC too serious doing the day like just thinking "am i dreaming" and atomaticly thinking "no" and moveing on or maybe the dream was too real looking

I barely do RC's in RL. I want to do it, but I forget them or think it's stupid cause I am so sure that I'm not dreaming anyway. But that is the part where it goes wrong cause lately my dreams are vivid and look so real. And I'm thinking "you're not dreaming anyway cause this is (/looks) so real".

      *going to practise RC's

Try doing more than one RC to. Like backups. And if you dont feel like doing them do them + 3 random RC more just to punish yourself for not wanting do it properly

Often times when you doing reality checks, people get careless. For most RCs, you have to imagine something, like finger-through-palm, you must close your eyes and imagine that your hand isn't there, or plugging your nose and trying to breathe. While you try to breathe, you have to imagine the air coming through your nose. Otherwise, the dream does what you would do in real life, and therefore the RC fails.

I used to try finger through palm, but on my first LD, it didn't actually work, and I only became lucid a little later in the dream. It didn't work for me, so I changed to looking at my watch, or reading something. But if it's worked for you before, then it's probably fine for you.

Just remember to do RCs all the time!

      .....i wonder why i said that o_o

well anyway, I dont mean to bash on you but that reality check sorta stinks and isnt very reliable for the said experience. It sometimes wont work. I suggest you do it combined with other reality checks or dump it altogether

I thought I had a dream today where I woke up on my bed but I thought it was a false awakening so I spun around and fell down only to realize I was in reality.

      Relivance? None.

You must will it so that inside your dreams and out that your reality checks lead to lucidity and not to just you realizing your dreaming.

It may sound pleonastic but they are two differnt things. One is just usually linked to the other when doing a reality check.

It seems that it is not so in your case.

ahaha!! reality checks NEVER work fo me!! its coz our minds are capable of creating situations like flying dogs or blue food, so its also capable of making your palm real and your finger not go throough it, or the time not change when you look at it. i reckon they only work when we MEAN them! dunno actually

lucidity always leads down to your inner most passions and secrets. To be honest, all this crap about reality checks is only a guidance for those who have uncovered their lucid potential. When your just spinning around and not knowing what the fuck you are doing then you should really sit down and think about your actual life before you start your lucid pleasures.

In simpler words, if you think you can, do it... If you doubt yourself, go back to the drawing board and try again because your not going to get anywhere without 'control over chaos'.

I agree. The only way the RC is going to work is if you really manage to get lucid in the waking life to. Many believe RC is just about the dreaming life, to wake up from the abstract thought patterns that create the dreaming surroundings, so that one can gain controll... which really just is a reflection of the waking state of mind.
I think RC is as much the same a wake up call to be aware of the surroundings, yourself and your potential in the waking life. To be lucid in waking life gives you the same, if not more, benefits that in a Lucid Dream. A Lucid way of living.

I think everyone in any situation can learn to do RC's to become lucid, even if it takes time. But, as you say, to dig down to yourself and face ones problems and overcoming them in ones actual life is a great boost for being able to become Lucid much faster. Its like releasing some pressure and opening some mental space, and can give more focus on what you really want... lets say, to become lucid.
