Music that captures the mood of Lucid Dreaming.

Well the art thread seemed to go down well,
So here's one for music that captures the mood of lucid dreaming....

Here's one that is a personal favourite, I think you'll all like it, mostly for the chorus! you'll see what i mean when you hear it. (and probably isn't played much outside of the UK)

      "Lucid Dreams - Franz Ferdinand"

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=__p_MbzZ6LE

And also the classic by the Verve...
(In fact, I almost forgot about this one, until I saw the picture in the Art thread by Dreamqueen.)

"Catching the Butterfly - The Verve"

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z-kpSpzobkY

      Here's some of the lyrics:

"I'm gonna keep catching that butterfly
      In that dream of mine
I'm gonna keep catching that butterfly
      In that dream of mine

      In my lucid dreams
      In my lucid dreams"

      Anything Sigur Ros, basically.

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EqWEkam9H4w

Just look at this video, (from Vanilla Sky) the beginning scene when they're on top of the building. It looks so much like a vivid lucid (everything down to the sky, the guy checking his watch, the other guy falling, sort of muffled sounds in the big city, etc). Not to even mention the music. It's unbelievable IMO.

Anything Animal Collective plays. I actually use it to go lucid in dreams quite often.

Nice one Xox, made me decide to order Vanilla Sky from Netflix as well. The music I found may seem odd to you, because it is from a video game, and not just that, a Mario game. I personally think the music sounds very surreal, and for me at least, captures that "dream feeling" you get.

I like this video. Others may not but it gets to me because it has always been one of my favourite songs even before I was into LD. Plus, music sometimes sounds like this in my dreams. It's kind of "wrong" somehow. It helps if you know the lyrics. Anyway...

Kaitlyn Ni Donovan's album Songs For Three Days is all very lucid dreamy. Especially the song: Electuaries. Her voice and music style is so dreamy!!

I have a lot of soft, calming music that I enjoy falling asleep to (now that I've re-trained myself to... finally).

I'd recommend anything by Secret Garden. It's just beautiful and inspires some great visualizations. (I could stand to listen to it right now, actually....)

Someone beat me to Animal Collective. <3

But otherwise, My Bloody Valentine's album Loveless, and anything by Manitoba (aka Caribou), or by Boards of Canada.

Or even M83, because most of their songs sound like flying through outerspace.

Yann Tiersen - La Noyée http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duGbgrv9LRE The video reminds me of lucid dreaming as well.

My other personal favorite. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAwR6w2TgxY Don't quite know the name for this. Just a mix. :p

I think the song "Cayman Islands" by Kings of Convenience captures that general dreamy feeling. I don't really like this video but I like the song, like you could just drift asleep to it:

Gah! How did I manage to forget Radiohead? ANYthing by Radiohead.

Especially the songs "How To Disappear Completely" and "Optimistic", the latter of which reminds me of an old-school pirate ship flying through the sky at night in the fog, playing music that sounds vaguely like Led Zepplin for the masses.

Good call. <3 You're so right.
Do you like Pelican too? Heavier, but still so soothing.
P.S. I love your avatar. A friend of mine has that as a tattoo.
      ----------

I love/hate threads on music, because I always get that nagging feeling I'm forgetting something.
It's like when I get to a good record store and completely blank.

Some things that capture the essence of lucid dreams that I forgot:

      • The K-Pax Soundtrack - watch out for tracks #5 and #8 though, the've been known to cause nightmares; #9 might be a sad dream
      • Four-Tet - can't stop listening to these guys right now
      • Nirvana songs played as children's lullabies [musicboxes, glockenspiels, etc.] - by Baby Rock Records; they do other bands too, i.e: Bjork, Tool, Zepplin, Bob Marley Smashing Pumpkins, and more [including The Pixies and Radiohead ones I have to get]
      • The Flaming Lips album Zaireeka - when you get all 4 discs and have 4 stereos to play them at once
      • Sigur Ros
      • Pelican

Actually, aside from MBV, this list might be more on point than my first. Hearing these bands makes my mind picture fantasy dreamscapes.

I find that music with indiscernable/foreign language/no lyrics at all tend to work the best.

All the better for emotional ambiguity.

<--i love how that little guy just keeps on trying.

I think any instrumental band or post rock captures the dream feeling perfectly.

      Some good ones are:

Sigur Ros (not really insturmental, but the vocals are basically another instrument)
      Explosions in the Sky
      God is an Astronaut
      The Album Leaf
      Godspeed You! Black Emperor
      Russian Circles
      Red Sparrowes
      This Will Destroy You

Some other non-instrumentals are Radiohead (especially Amnesiac), Silversun Pickups, Broadcast (Really cool analog sounding synth stuff), Anekdoten (really sick prog rock) and anything Dub.
