      Music for dreamers Vol. I

Not sure where this post should go but, bleh.

I thought I could post some interesting music that kinda helps me get in a dreamy mood, and that helps me get my mind kinda going in that direction with mental imagery and so forth. Some of you may totally disagree with me, but feel free to add to the list if you like... all these people I list should be available to buy or at least hear on amazon.com...

Eluvium- This guy...is just...I mean you just have to hear him, once you listen you'll know what I mean *sigh*

Ulrich Schnauss- This guy is very cool to me, he's got dreamy ambience backed up by interesting beats, at least on his first to releases. On "Goodbye" its like glacial-synths-layered melody-overload, which I don't mind. Simply put his music is for driving down your favorite road on a gloriously partly cloudy morning.

      (Yes I'm cheesy.)

Tycho- "Past is Prologue" is the soundtrack of sunsets

Boards of Canada- Downtempo gods that have been around since forever lol, check em out.

BT-"This Binary Universe" AWESOME CD! It's like a film score from the 23rd century.

The Fountain Sountrack- Great soundtrack, absolutely beautiful. (I liked the movie too!)

Proem- dreamy alien melodies+glitchy yet organic beats= heaven. All his CD's are good if your into IDM/electronica. If you have no idea what the heck that is check out m3rck.net, merck is a IDM/electronica label with great artists. Oh, I think Ghostly International is a good one too.

Explosions in the Sky- You know you loved the soundtrack to Friday Night Lights. ^That was these guys^. It's heartfelt instrumental post-rock. "The Earth is Not A Cold Dead Place" is a good one I'd recommend.

LSG- Not the R&B group. Check out his "Best of..." collection, with his own reworkings of his top singles, cool stuff.

Aphex Twin- Selected Ambient Works Vol.2, duh, hands down.

      Fennesz
      Loscil
Sigur Ros (I know everyone knows these guys but just in case. The vocals seem annoyign at first but hang in there it will totally grow on you)
      www.bluelaguna.net

This is all I can think of right now...really check out hese guys if yall can.

Japanese acoustic eh? I don't know much about classical japanese music other than the koto. I'm all into indian/middle eastern classical though. Lately ive been trying to find stuff that uses more archaic western instruments- harps, clavichords, celestas, dulcitones etc. hard to find though *sigh*

"Marooned" by Pink Floyd from the Division Bell is the most soothing piece of music ever written by mankind. If you haven't heard it, you must find it now. It will instantly transport you to a surreal and infinitely relaxing beach landscape! Needless to say there is a massive number of equally awesome Floyd songs but the vocals usually get me too involved in the song so instrumentals like Marooned rule if you want to space out and get into a dreamy state of mind. Here's some other awesome ones that have lyrics but are still super mellow:
      -Shine on You Crazy Diamond
      -Echoes
      -Us and Them
-The Great Gig in the Sky
      -Coming Back to Life
      -High Hopes
      -Wearing the Inside Out

Native American flute music is also pretty relaxing and dreamy, check out Carlos Nakai.

Checkout the scores from John Williams, Danny Elfman, and Hans (or Hanz) Zimmer

Wolfmother is pretty sweet to listen to while falling asleep. Also MGMT is pretty relaxing, what I would not recommend is Animal Collective unless, of course, your trying to induce a nightmare.

      Anything psychedelic is perfect

      Listen to this stuff:

      Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
      The Brian Jonestown Massacre
      The Ponys
      Black Mountain
      The Morning After Girls
      The Duke Spirit
      The Black Angels
      The Warlocks
God is an Astronuat/anything similar like explosions, this will destroy you
      The Pink Mountain Tops
      The Dandy Warhols

I personally enjoy anything that just drones on and on

Psychedelic chillouts. The more ambient the better.

In psytrance, in general, there are many references to dreaming or lucid dreaming.

Also I have to disagree, Animal Collective is great for dreaming in my opinion.

Some links to other threads here at DV on the same topic:
Music that captures the mood of lucid dreaming.
What music inspires you for lucid dreaming?

And since they have yet to be mentioned in this particular thread:

      • My Bloody Valentine
      • Manitoba (aka: Caribou)
      • The Flaming Lips
      • The K-Pax soundtrack
      • Sonic Youth
      • Asobi Seksu
      • Galaxy500
      • Broken Social Scene
      • M83
      • Pelican
      • Hum
      • Team Sleep
      • Camera Obscura
      • Flying Saucer Attack
      • Lush
      • The Arcade Fire
      • Anything from Baby Rock Records [they take the songs of many different bands, and play them in the form of children's lullabies.]

      I love music threads.

Here is some of the best Shoegaze/Dream Pop/Post-Rock/Ambient out there. I'm kind of a music buff so trust me that all of this is really good. I'll also rate them out of 10.

Heaven or Las Vegas by Cocteau Twins (7/10)
      Souvlaki by Slowdive (9/10)
Meddle/Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd (10/10 for both)
Daydream Nation by Sonic Youth (9/10)
Agaetis Byrjun by Sigur Ros (8/10)
      Spiderland by Slint (7/10)
