      Improving skills

Well i'm just starting out with lucid dreaming. while all I have done is fly for about a min in one dream before going back to accepting it was a dream and i don't remember much after that.

I'm wonder if you can improve skills while dreaming as you would in daily life. For example i'm a skateboarder would you be able to improve your skills with dreaming? i'm thinking no because of you being able to do more and it being possible without much challenge but maybe i'm wrong?

      thanks in advance.

      Yes, you would.
Your brain can't distinguish dreams from reality and acts like it would in waking life. That means that if you go skate in your dream, your brain will send impulses to your muscles (which are paralyzed) to move accordingly. This means the connections of the nerve system will improve, thus giving you better control.

I think it is still rather disputed over whether or not muscle memory can be built.

I think it can, as, as TLS said, nerve paths are better developed. For sure, you can't gain muscle mass through dreaming, so don't think that.

Nerve paths can be heavily increased, and I don't just mean for skateboarding. Doing math equations in dreams is the same as real life. Most things you do can help you.
      Bollocks.

Actually, this symptom is named in a few books, including Exploring The World of Lucid Dreaming. I'm sure it can be done.

The one thing to consider, you might not be doing the right muscle movements in your dream so all you may to is create bad practices.

Things i've heard people were successful with are things the are absolute such as playing an instrument (you either get the note or you don't, best with the piano). They don't develop the co-responding muscle reflexes but they DO strengthen the "okay, this finger goes to this key" on reflex which is the part that most people have the most trouble with.

Good point - One may only weaken their skill level with repeated bad practice.
