Exploring the world of lucid dreaming - confusing?

I got the lucid dreaming "bible" for my 21st birthday a few weeks ago and I started reading it. Am I the only one who finds is slightly confusing? These exercises are featured a lot, there's lots of them. I'm not sure on how to progress through the book.

I'm sure many of you already own it. How do/did you work with it?

It's fine to go in order, but I skipped around a lot. What are you doing right now to help with your Lucid Dreaming endeavors? It might help you if you pick the exercise that fits what you're doing and go with that for a while.

I skip over a lot of the spiritual based stuff and the experiences. Once I'd read through them once, I wasn't really interested in wasting my time again.

Try to look through the index and think of it in terms of what you already know.

Preparation for Lucid Dreaming: How to DJ, pick goals, and basic relaxation exercises (which you can ignore if you choose to do so)
Waking up in the Dream World: DILDs (reality checking, prospective memory for MILD, and autosuggestion)
Falling Asleep Consciously: WILDs (HIT, VILD, keeping your mind busy to WILD, using SP to WILD)
The Building Of Dreams: A few ideas of how dreams work, why they play out the way they do. Some kind of basic psychology to get you thinking about your dreams ad
Principles and Practice of Lucid Dreaming: Dream Control (Changing scenes, stabilizing, etc)

First thing I'd do is read the whole book through, without practicing any exercises. Then, as far as the exercises go, pick and choose. Do you want to WILD or DILD? Read that section again. By this point you'll have a good idea of what you want to try. The exercises vary, and you can kind of blow off what you think is stupid (for example, that pot shaped breathing stuff and lotus blah blah just gets too drawn out), but make a note of the ones that do sound legit and possible to you.

I just read through the book without doing of the exercises and then read back to the parts that interested me.

I've been very sloppy with lucid dreaming honestly. I was supposed to start working on my dream journal again a few weeks ago but I that didn't work out good. I need to be more determined.

I bought it and read through it and didn't find it as confusing as this one book from my school library "Lucid Dreaming-The power of being awake and aware in your dreams" I had a hard time understanding and had to keep re-reading the sentences but after finally understanding it, I started becoming more interested in the science.

After reading through both books, I would just go back to what I found most useful like the techniques. I had a hard time with the lotus and the candle flame one, so when ever I did attempt something like that, I just pictured a normal candle with a flame.

I also had a hard time understanding the part of focusing on different parts of the body. What? Does that mean like picture your forehead in your mind? I don't know.

but like Phrisco and Shift said, I read it and went back to what I understood most and found interesting.
