Anyone ever had this?

My cousin visits the SomethingAwful forums and found a post there about a weird lucid dream experience for this one guy.

I didn't need a cue anymore, it was an immediate reaction that it was a dream. After about a year of it, it started to get boring. Dreamtime is one of those things where your imagination runs wild. I started to use it instead to work on things in real life, figuring out crap for assignments, etc. Dreaming that you are coding is possibly the worst dream ever by the way. Getting into dreams turned into more of a task of just continuing where I left off the night before. This is about where it all went downhill for me. The dreams were boring, the dreams were short. I started to let go of the control and strive for reality. The dreams became sort of hyper-real, and longer than they should be. This reached a peak about a year and a half ago that screwed me up a lot. Have you ever had a dream (that you remember) where it was not some abstract length of time, but rather incredibly long? My fun ended with a 2 week stretch of continual dreams that were as real as \"reality\", just that the people in them were not from my daily life, they were dream people who I had never seen before or knew, but they were there. I had dreams that literally lasted years in one night, would wake up and not know what the hell was going on. The worst was that I would remember the dream in full. I went through somewhere around 40 years in this dream time. Finished college, finished a graduate degree, had real life problems associated with it the whole time, got a job, moved, got married, had kids, had a life going on for all intents and purposes. Then, I wake up and I am still in college, and have to continue on with the drudgery of such life. The worst part was that it wasn't a dream with sudden time jumps, it was day by day, hour by hour. Complete with times of boredom and waiting for the bus. My good friend alcohol finally cured this. Dreamless sleep was a godsend. Now, I have dreams again, some of them lucid, but I keep control and exert it.
Jesus christ.

Has anyone here ever had that?!

Cheers,
Dylan

It still completely fascinates me that so many people have completely and utterly grounded in reality dreams. I can't remember a single one. There's always something not quite earthly going on... maybe I'm just a twisted individual.

I'm not sure... do you believe him? Sounds kind of grandoise but at the same time I wouldn't want to discount the possibility. Dreamtime can be skewed quite dramatically... but why, if you knew you were dreaming (he says he was lucid) would you wait for a bus? I'm just going to leave it at that for now.

I could delete it, but I see no reason why - we can just let it float to the bottom. Deletion is reserved more for like, very very very rude topics or topics that are just spam.

I remember an episode of Star Trek the Next Generations where this happens to Picard, an Alien transmits its experiences into his mind, he finds himself in a new world, he is a new person but with the knowledge of his other life, comes to the conclusion that his other life was a dream, in reality he was out cold for about 10 min, but he lived an entire life with a family and there was no indication he was asleep. It would be amazing to have a dream that lasted years, then wake up to realize it was just a dream! I will post the episode synopsis below so you guys can check it out.

It was called The Inner Light, I’m sure the creator, Gene Roddenberry must have been interested in Lucid Dreaming, he was a very intelligent man.

Synopsis
An unsophisticated alien probe assumes a relative position, holding steady with the U.S.S. Enterprise, and releases a nucleonic particle stream that penetrates the ship's shields. Focusing solely on Picard, the beam knocks him unconscious. When he wakes up, Picard finds himself in unfamiliar surroundings, being cared for by an attractive woman. The woman, Eline, tells him his name is \"Kamin,\" and he is her husband of three years. She also tells him that he has been sick and must be experiencing a memory loss. Picard soon learns that he lives on the planet Kataan, where he works as a simple iron weaver. His confusion is compounded when he notices that Eline wears an exact replica of the alien probe as jewelry. She tells Picard he gave her the necklace as a gift.

On the Enterprise, the crew is unable to revive Picard. Realizing the particle emission that has attached itself to him may control his life, they are afraid to destroy the beam. Only a few moments have passed, but on Kataan, it is already five years later, and Picard is settling into his life. He comes up with a solution to the drought that is destroying the planet, but his advanced ideas are laughed at by leaders of the primitive society. However, his life is not without its pleasures. Picard kisses Eline, an act that causes his pulse to rise back on the Enterprise. Worf insists they must destroy the beam since their Captain is under attack.

They do so, and Picard's pulse drops dramatically. On Kataan, where seven more years have passed, he falls to the floor. Acting quickly, the crew restores the beam. Back on Kataan, another 12 years have passed, and Picard has two children. The drought continues to worsen, and Picard's teenage daughter realizes their planet is doomed. At the same time, Geordi and Data are able to chart the probe's radiation to Kataan, a planet that was destroyed in a supernova explosion over a thousand years ago.

On Kataan, the years continue to fly by. Picard continues his quest to get something done about the drought, but his suggestions fall on deaf ears. Later, Eline dies, as does Picard's best friend Batai, and his first grandchild is born.

The elapsed time on the Enterprise is still only a few minutes. However, Beverly becomes alarmed when she realizes that Picard's metabolic rates match those of an 80-year-old man. In fact, Picard is actually 85 years old on Kataan, where the drought has almost completely destroyed the planet. His children and grandchild convince the unwilling old man to accompany them to a missile launching - an event they are all very excited about. Picard doesn't understand the point, knowing the missile will do nothing to save the planet or its people. However, as the missile takes off, his family, with the help of Eline's spirit, explain to Picard that they are launching a probe into the future to find a person who will bring them immortality by telling others about their planet after it is destroyed. Picard realizes the missile is actually the probe that brought him to Kataan over 30 years ago. As this happens, he wakes up aboard the Enterprise and is amazed to learn he has only been unconscious for 25 minutes, in which time he lived a third of a lifetime.

Have you came across a word in the dictionary called “Communication”? its what humans do my friend, we are designed to talk to
each other, maybe this defintion will refresh your memory:-

com•mu•ni•ca•tion

a. The exchange of [u]thoughts, or behavior.
b. Interpersonal rapport.

Why would you perceive someone to be so shallow as to post to get their poster number up as you crudely put it? I would like an answer please I’m not interested in that kind of shit my dear friend, it came from your head not mine. You may be to preoccupied with value without depth (shallowness) MY DICK IS BIGGER THAN YOURS NAR NAR but I myself am not interested if it is. I post on the boards to talk to people, maybe because I don’t get to talk to people much because of my interests and I like to built up a friendship with people i dont know, maybe to get to them them better, for them to like me, does that sound ok to you? small talk is also a big part of getting to know people, it leads to BIG TALK. if I’ve posted more than people have being here for 3 months then answer me this should i stop posting more or should other people start posting more? If you have a problem look within yourself, not judging other people for their willingness to bridge the gap of communication. I happen to like communication on all levels, not just dreaming but to talk to people (like in the Halo and HHGTOG message) if you are so interested in reading my messages, try to ignore them in the future. You know the name, just forget i even exist....its not that difficult, i vanish in a whim of your imagination.

whould you consider what you typed to be pointless blabber?

From reading your posts you seem to have gotten a better value of responses, that myself is good! Do I look bothered? No (lol) so why should I bother you if i get get responses?

Stick to smoking the Wacky Backy mate, i thought it makes you immune to shit like that, that’s why I smoke it daily, to avoid the social evils in the world like comparison.

Since when was it considered rude to post a lot on this forum?
This post you responded to was verging on small talk, but if you looked through the other posts - you'll find that they sure as hell aren't senseless blabber
How can you make that sort of judgement based on one post ? Or are you geniunely claiming that ALL his posts are crap?

If Mystical was trying to get a post count up - why the hell would he waste the effort to type out long, thoughtful responses
Sure - he tends to make big posts - but usually those posts are worth reading, and aren't mindless drivel

If you don't appreciate his posts (long as they are) - simply ignore them

I consider both of you guys to be decent contributors to this forum, albeit it relatively new

thanks for the intervention Placebo, I will definitely try my hardest to make my posts smaller and more concise
and of cause concentrate more on not wondering in my writings (lol) I’m like this when I’m new, but I do calm down (lol)
always seem to make organic responses that have no connection with what was written above,
to hopefully find someone who would say “hey I’m a fan of star trek, that episode rules, email me and we can talk”
we don’t get that often in this world unfortunately.
I just want everyone to be happy, the world doesn’t need more negative energy, i get enough of that at home.
