      Physical sensations in dreams

Do dreamers here find they experience life-like, but previously unfelt physical sensations in dreams?

Last night, for example, I had a dream, as often happens, in a forest. A friend of mine is showing me these fruits that seem to grow on the ground. He'd break open the outer shell and reveal a fluorescent colored melon-type fruit inside. When I tried it, I had this intense, great taste in my mouth, not of any fruit I've ever tried, but fruit-y no doubt. Later it turned to night and these fruits would glow in the dark, and my friend told me they were alien fruit.

Later, there was a battle going on, and this guy started throwing handfulls of red ants on me. I looked down and I was naked. I could feel them biting all over my body, and it was surprisingly painful. Though, I've never been bitten by red ants.

I've experienced a lot of other sensations in dreams, too, often things I've never relt in RL.

once I tried cocaine in a dream but it was BLAND to say the least. some things, I guess, my mind cannot fathom the experience.

other times, *close* physical contact with various girls, which I must admit, I haven't experienced much of in real life, lol

I do sense that I've tried various foods in dreams before that don't even exist in real life, but I don't remember it all too clearly.

Oh yeah, one time I got the priveledge to keep opening and closing the 1/4" or so of "skin" layer of my stomach in my dream and see my heart still beating. It was awesome. The experience.. felt awkward, ticklish, or otherwise unpleasant.

      Yes Welcome to Dreamviews

I have noticed that somtimes when I am concentrating on a particular thing that is happening in the dream and it invovles touching, smelling or any of the senses they seem to be exagerated.
I too have had things happen to me where I have never felt that in real life.
I think it is cool how your mind can generate a feeling based solely on what it has been told or has seen.

I find that my three senses aside from seeing and hearing are often rather dull in dreams. I have never experiences extreme pain in dreams, despite being slashed with swords, shot with arrows, etc. That could be because I've never experienced severe pain in waking life. That Pepsi last night tasted right, though... I think our brain probably has a difficult time simulating something if we've never felt anything like it. For example, being bitten by red ants would probably be similar to a bee sting, and just about everyone has experienced that at one time or another.
Well life is short, so love the one ya' got, 'cause you might get run over or you might get shot.

      Hey, thanks for the welcome.

Funny you should mention trying cocaine in a dream, Rogue Chemist, as I was just mentioning in a Lucid Experiences thread how I did a line in a dream a few nights ago.

I've only done it once in RL, 3 years ago, but damn did it ever feel good! The nice thing was that I didn't wake up with the all-encompassing, painful desire for another.

I suppose the red ant bite thing could quite easily be my mind likening the sensation to something like hundreds of bee stings, but that's what's so neat about tasting the alien fruit; it seems strange that my mind could invent a completely new, yet enjoyable, taste.

      hmm, dream senses

I've felt many things in dreams, and they do seem to be exadurated. I dont usually eat in dreams. But pain is something i dont feel A LOT in dreams. I do feel it occasionaly, but only when i dont know i'm dreaming.

I've also found that things are very exaggerated in my dreams, particularly emotions. I've experienced love, anger, sorrow, and other emotions to a MUCH higher degree than I ever have in reality, even when they are triggered by things that would normally be considered quite trivial.

My vision in dreams is always brighter than real life. It's just...more. I don't really know how to describe it. I haven't noticed the same thing about my other senses. My sense of touch basically disappeared in one dream, which is kind of strange.

I dreamt that me and my friends were 'inside' the GTA: SA game..
And, of course, I wanted to steal a hamburger from someone, so I did .. and it tasted SOO good

My sense of taste seems limited... I can taste sweet, sour, salty, bitter, etc. but nothing really more specific. All my other senses seem heightened most of the time except touch sometimes (pain is dulled) I also don't normally smell unless there is something cooking, or something is rotting, or something that looks particularly tantalizing to eat is near me. The brain tends to heighten things experienced "sensually" depending on the level of desire or fear in my experience.

someone told me that food tastes unbelievably great in dreams... so one time when I thought to try it, all that was in the fridge was some string cheese. I thought what the heck and opened it up.. it was all old and stale. It wouldn't even pull apart into strings anymore. I tried some anyways but it just tasted like stale cheese. Threw it in the garbage. Waste enough time eating while awake... don't plan on eating again in a dream.
