yea...my dads a priest, so thats how i kno this:

sopposedly, its very possible to be posessed while lding (especially when screwing around, like flying, materializing stuff, etc.) since there is a close boarder apparently between the dream world and spiritual realm. stuff (demons) can just pass over.... and posess u..... i might not apear on this site much longer now...

hmmm well I really think it, seeing as how the setting is inside of your mind, that it is up to you what direction your dreams will go... lucid or not lucid.... they are all a manifestation of the things we already have inside of ourselves....the potential of being "possessed" is always there and just as prevelant....

I think that LD'ing would decrease your chance of being posessed, if that chance exists at all. Normal dreams should bring you just as close to the spirit realm as lucid dreams, I should think. However, in normal dreams, you are not aware and in control, so should a demon decide to come in and take over, you just might decide to welcome him in. In a lucid dream, you'll know what's going on, and you'll be able to fight it. After all, dreams are pretty much a window into our mind/soul.

Man thats not cool, think about what you think, not what your dad thinks just because he is a priest! Do you like to ld? It's one of the most fun things I have ever done, and has anyone here ever been possesed, much less while lucid dreaming? Don't let your dad ruin it for you, your not going to be posessed, man I thought this post was about someone getting aressted for possession

OK dreamer3, I'm going to make an assumption that since your dad is a priest that you have been confirmed and are therefore saved and have Gods spirit living inside you.

If you are trying to live right, and Gods spirit is living inside of you, how in the world could an evil spirit hope to posess you?

OK, now everyone put your flamethrowers away. Since dreamer3 brought this up in a Christian context, I thought I would answer in a Christian context.

Personally, I don't feel that meditation, OBE, or LD can result in posession, but if it could, I think dreamer3 is covered

This is an example of people who do not understand somthing, lableing it.
This is why Lucid Dreaming is not found in the Education section of the book store. Instead it is associated with Witchcraft, Ubductions, and similar topics.
People are afraid of what they do not understand. Religious people have even more boundaries.

Dreamer3, you have more chance being or getting possed in a normal dream because you are then less
conscious and there for more vulnarable then in a conscious one!
I also fly in dreams where iam not lucid so thats a weak argument and it seems to be based on fear.

A lucid dream is just a dream where your conscious self is aware that you are dreaming.
Being aware of yourself isnt an occult thing!

Also i wonder what will you do in your next lucid dream?
I mean you cant just switch being conscious and being aware of yourself off
like a light switch.

Great advice from all around, Lucid Apple, you jarred something else loose in my mind.

Dreamer3, read the scriptures and then sit down with your dad and have a nice calm discussion with him about it. Find out the source of his information and then discuss it using scripture.

Be sure to cover the angle of Gods spirit living inside you and protecting you.

When I first started investigating such things as meditation and astral projection, I had some reservations about it as well. I was afraid I would leave the door open or that something would follow me home. You know what I did?

I went to God in prayer several times and waited for an answer. I feel in my heart that he has given me the go-ahead to explore stuff like this and that no harm will come to me.

Anyway, LDing is a natural thing. There are no drugs involved. There are also no rituals such as sacrifices, chicken blood, or any of the other things that are listed as "occult".

I suppose a bit of "fear of the unknown" is involved here. There must be, what, 1,000 people on this site who have had an LD; since none of them have reported any posessions or whatever. 1,000 people isn't much, granted, but we come from very different walks of life here.

It just occured to me that this sort of fear of LD'ing in the religious world could be something to do with Sleep Paralysis and old hag (ie: "waking up" in the middle of the night and something sucks your blood out while you can't move). Imagine what those people must of thought back in 200AD or whatever - could of gone to a priest, and he's like "Uh, okay. Something obviously evil is up here." So he passes on the word, it gets revealed that quite a few folk have had this. It's the only logical explanation they can dawn upon, since they aren't exactly that advanced and aware of dreaming in 200AD.

That's carried on to this day because when you think about it, the majority of people are still just as educated as the 200AD'ers about lucid dreaming. Okay tanagent, sorry.

I don't believe that LDing has anything DIRECTLY to do with demon posession although from my own experience, I'd say that altered states of consciousness such as LDing may or can "open doors" within spiritual realms or realities that could not be done during normal conscious states. That being said, I would say that some people who have a tendency towards black magic, the occult, satanism, or even some pantheistic or anti-Christian religions/philosophies who also LD may consciously or unconsciously draw, invite, or evoke/invoke spirits that are deceptive and destructive and by their nature, anti-Christ. In particular, black magic practicers and some who practice witchcraft openly and blatantly invoke these spirits while in trances, meditative states, or by using mind-altering drugs and would therefore probably see and actively use LDing as a powerful too or method for such practices. This is one of the reasons why I strongly warn those who seek to induce LDing, those who "practice" LDing, etc. to be extremely careful as events sometimes can occur during LDs that may "invite" some dark/destructive/harmful spirits or powers. I say this as one who has been a frequent Lucid Dreamer for over 10 years and an every-night LDer for about 5 years, sometimes harassed by demonic spirits. I think I also agree with Calla to a degree... demons probably have no authority over someone who is LDing more than someone who is awake and conscious - unless they are blatantly into something like voodoo or black magic or are entertaining spirits or powers. Is posession possible? I wouldn't rule it out, but I also would not promote the idea, especially if it comes from someone who has little or no experience with LDing.

It also should also be noted, I think, that although God may not speak to people as SPECIFICALLY or clearly as he has in times past (to his prophets and apostles) I DO believe that he has and does confirm profound things through dreams. I like the word "confirm" better than say "teach" or that he "speaks" as in a revelatory visiosn, because his Truth is already evident in the Word. There is no new special revelation. I've heard a lot of people (Christians mostly) say "God has spoken to me in a dream," or "God said such and such... to me in a vision" when really they are simply regurgitating a teaching that has already been taught (either by another person or in the scriptures) or have been deceived by spirits. This is far out stuff to those who are not spiritual in the inclinations, but I do agree with dreamer3 that there is sometimes a thin line between the dream world and the spiritual realms.

You might also want to think about the idea that Lucid dreams can be an effective means of prayer. I have only been Lucid dreaming for less than a week now, so I haven't realy been able to do it, but I am trying to attempt prayer when I do. This is interesting because offten I find God telling me things that I have a hard time getting my mind around, but I have a feeling that in a dream I can wrap by head around ideas better. I think in this thread we have herd from a couple solid christians. Here is another that has prayed significantly about LDing and been shown that it can be just as much a tool as a danger.

I beleive that as a christian one cannot be possesed ever, no matter whether you are waking or sleeping. However, you are always in danger of spiritual forces. The error that most people fall into is they think that you are only in danger of demonic forces when you open yourself up to it like practicing witchcraft or something. While it is certainly true that this drasticly weakens you, you are _always_ in the middle of a spiritual war. The important thing is that you remain stong and depend on God wherever you are not just in dreams.

I feel aswell like I might not post as much here, but only because I have revealed my spiritual identety and have now opened myself up for a torent of flames. Hehe oh well, I guess that is the christian's lot these days.

In a Christian context, like Seeker said, if you are confirmed you have God the Holy Spirit inside of you. This is a guidance and form of protection, so if you are really a man of love/spirit, there should be no harm done to you as far as belief in demons goes. Any thought of possession is probably self-made, and even those who do wake up holding a knife with slits on their arms, are probably just victim to self-induced hysteria and anxiety about the matter. If you tell yourself something enough times, you will begin to believe it.
