      When we were Young

Do you ever remember when you were young, and you'd run into your parents bedroom terrified of the dark shadow hiding in the dresser? You loving parents assure you that there's nothing to be afraid of by simply saying "Don't worry, it's just your imagination."

Well, when I was younger, a lot younger (3-5), I can recall a handful of these experiences. They included hallucinations of characters popping out of the posters on my wall (before I'd gone to sleep), a lot of voices which seemed to come from know where, and even an imaginary friend which my mother told me she seen me talking to (She said it looked like I was talking to thin air). And the vivid dreams I would have - I would actually wake up thinking it was possible to fly.

When we are young our more open minds hold the key to things such as Lucid Dreaming, Astral Projection and who knows what else, but somewhere along the way we lose it. Was it the early nights when our parents put us down to sleep? Maybe it was our innocence, and thinking that anything was possible. As we grow, and learn what is and isn't, what is fact and fiction, are these ties to a more extraordinary realm severed?

I'm just curious to know how many others have had similar experiences like this when they were young, and if any in particular stick out to them.

I had alot of these experiences when I was young. One of them was always a man about 40 years of age. Who would hold a chair in his arms. And I always feld as if he was going to get me.

I had a similar experience with my childhood invisible friend 'Weeble Weeble'. Apparently I told Mum one day that he'd gone on a vacation over the mountains. After that I never spoke of him again. The strange thing is, I can't recall what he looked like, instead I think of the Moon when I try to remember? If I think hard I can remember sitting in the dark room I slept in as a child, with the rays of Moon light coming in from the window. I have a very strong feeling that this memory is connected to a moment when I was with this invisible friend.

      How strange.

I was, and still am, a very odd kid. I am very logical (In Dream Controll I say this is a dream not real life, I can do what ever I want.). I used to talk to um people, I called them ghosts. I used to try to do magic. When I was 6 I literly started MAKING my self stop acting this crazy. Thats how I lost it. I wonder how you do!

My aunty had an imaginary friend when she was little. One day, her, my mum and my grandparents were walking over a bridge.
"Oh no!" She cried and looked in horror over the side of the bridge.
"What's wrong?" My grandmother asked her.
"Sally's fallen over the edge!" She started crying. (Sally was her imaginary friend.)
According to my grandparents, she never spoke of Sally ever again. She also says she doesn't remember what she looked like.

I didn't have any imaginary friends or see things in my room as a child, but my younger sister told me that she saw an old hag hiding in her room.
As a child, I thought that everyone else had occasional lucid dreams just as I did, and I was surprised to learn that they did not fly in their dreams. As I got older, I flew lower and lower in my dreams, I had less control of my flying, and I finally got to the point where I could not fly anymore.

Sounds a lot like Peter Pan to me. You should have stayed in Never never land

I also experienced what I called shadow people well into my teens growing up. I would walk past a hallway in our home and out of the corner of my eye would catch a dark object, sometimes a leg or arm darting into one of the bedrooms, usually my parents room. I've also posted about a couple of waking dreams I had.

Though I often have LD's they are usually low level ones and short.
I wouldn't be paranoid if they weren't out to get me!

I remember seeing a shadow person once, he was next to my parent's closet, holding onto it with one arm, leaning, then he saw me and stood up taller, I got scared and ran away, really freaky

I also remember not having an imaginary friend, but I would pretend I did, the last time I remember thinking about him, my parents asked me weather he had buckled up in a car ride before we left, I said no and then buckled his seatbelt, thinking that "I never had one, why was I doing this?"

The worst experience I ever had related is when my parents read me this old, musty book one night about a wardrobe. I had a nightmare about it, woke up, and was so terrified I demanded the book be destroyed. I never hallucinated though, and in terms of shadows, that was only the blatant readings of a paranoid child's mind.

Now there's a good question: Is it normal for kids to hallucinate?
