      Mind Mapping your dreams ?

      Hello everybody,
After a long hiatus i decided to re-re-start the lucid dreams workout: this time i decided to take more time in doing this ( no need to rush..). maybe i ll not drop my exercise after some months...

Along with lucid dream i m also improving Mind mapping ( by Tony Buzan: google it ).
i m still quite slow to mind map, so i cannot map all my dreams ( still using the oldskool pencil and paper..) but i discovered that mindmapping is very good for dream recall ( for more than the usual reasons mind mapping is superior to classic note taking..).

My questions are: who is using mind map to keep the journal? how do you map your dreams? mapping a story is not so easy, but mapping a dream is even more complicated!
can you share some tips ( i might share mine if someone care) ? or even better, posting a scanned Jpg of your lucid dream ?

      thank everybody!

      Rotello

Hey, I've done that! AirRick01 tuned me on to that and I have the Mind Mapping sftware loaded on my computer at work. Sometime after the first of the year, I will upload a snapshot of it. I found that if I number the nodes, i can maintain chronological order.

      Example:

1.0 Found myself in location X
      1.1 Noticed dreamsign Y
      2.0 became lucid
      2.1 Did X
      2.2 Did Y
      3.0 Losing it, used spinning
      4.0 False awakening

      and so on.

Let me know what you have tried. Mind mapping is a pretty amazing way of organizing dreams. It is pretty cool how well such a simple thing like a mind-map can bring almost total recall of the dream.

      Site says:

You probably don't know it, but you actually use LESS than 1% of your potential brain power (so research says!). *Now unleash the remaining 99% of your brain power, by using the Buzan BrainFriendly processes which allows you to achieve peak personal & professional productivity (as well as far greater enjoyment in your life).[/b]
Which is wrong, as well all know... Sounds a bit like a "c'mon, buy our shit" now type scheme.

Yeah, i agree, the marketing hype is a little thick, but, Mind mapping software is pretty useful. We use it at work during brain stroming sessions. Think of it as a graphical means of developing an outline.

hey, I have Tony Buzan's Memory improvement books. They are amazing and I can memorize a 52 pack of cards pretty fast now I never use lists when go shopping or anything. I memorized all the numbers in my phone book in one go! It's a great thing to learn about.
He covers remembering your dreams in one of his books briefly. He says that as you dream to link things together and make one image. It's a bit wierd lol

Yeah, i'm not saying mind maps are bad at all. I've done some and they're useful, but they defintely don't unlock 99% of your brain (got it already), and there's an free open source alternative software too, if you like Java stuff.

But yeah, I watched a documentary on how the mind works with links. You can memorize things by associating them with, say, rooms in your house. As you walk through the rooms in your house, you are supposed to be able to remember these weird things more easier (say a bunch of random words, etc).

Nice idea about the mindmapping - I should try that...

      About memory:

I've gone quite deep into memory techniques (Tony Buzan and Kevin Trudeau, and all these books and techniques all boil down to the same thing - its about associative links between things you know, and things you don't

I'm not saying the books aren't good - they're very good. But the basis of the advanced memory is what I said above.

      Other points:
      - repetition at particular times. Eg. 20 minutes later, 1 day, 1 week, 1 month... something like that (this is not exact - I dont claim it to be)
      - getting your mind interested in the things you're memorising, by being as wierd/silly/funny about it as possible
      - Motivation. The more important it is to you, the better you'll remember it. This is limited in helping though...
      ... um.. forget the others...

For different specific techniques, I suggest reading a few books

Unless otherwise stated, views expressed in this post are not necessarily representative of the official Dream Views stance. Hell, it's probably not even representative of me.

      Hello again ,
i m happy to see the amount of interest my tread had: today i re-designed my "DREAM TEMPLATE mind map" with english words, so everybody can understand.
since we are also speaking of memory techniques... i m using the " phonetic system" to remember the day / months / year . only problem here is internationalisation of number ( 26 is NOCE in italian, dunno in englush) ( i guess everyone is more confortable with his own native language..). then i associate the title with the date. and repeat them asap. ( good for recurring dream sign)

Tonight i ll scan the template and some dreams. but i ll wait to post them: i use a differnt approach to mind map them ( probably coz i m lucid once a month only..) than Seeker, and i guess differnet people will have different approach.

i tend to make everything with pencil ( coz the program i tried are 10% as good as brain). the freeware alternative to Mind map is not as good as the mindmanager, which is too expensive to consider to buy ( imho).

i agree about the 99% hype. hopefully we are using a bit more than 1%, and mind mapping alone will not make us a 100% brain-user. a book i found VERY intersting about rising awareness is Micheal gelb' How to think like leonardo. i suggest it more than berne's "exploring the world of lucid dream" ..

ciao, too much speak a too little action.

      rotello

ps please post scanned mind map, i m very curious.

      hello !

      I scanned my "template map" ( here -> http://www.genkisound.com/manolo/download/...=.&currentPic=1 )

      While here it s a resut of that template. ( http://www.genkisound.com/manolo/download/...=.&currentPic=0 )
The dream is quite fresh: I did NOT go lucid, but there where at 3 strong dream sign. i ll write the "linear" version asap!
Most words are in italian but u guess the pattern are understandable. next one will be in english.

      enjoy !

Are there any books for this? Specifically mind-mapping your dreams? What about creating dream maps, like a map in a fantasy book but drawn by the dreamer as the landscape of their dreams?
      Your resistance to something,
Is the only power it has over you.
      This too, will pass.

I use cintanote, it have a tag system (for finding recurent stuffs in your dreams), and it works like a journal.
You can do the same with Word and using hyperlink to other pages.
