Why Certain Things Typically Occur ("Dream Signs")

Has anyone been able to determine a reason for why certain things are almost-universal "dream signs"? i.e. for most people clocks change when looked at a second time, lights don't work. These seem awfully specific, and yet their apparently quite widespread (I've never actually experienced either).

It has to do with how the human brain processes and retains data is my guess. I mean take the clock for example, YOU don't know what time it is, why would the clock be accurate? The number is just gonna pluck a random sequence of numbers and stick them into the clock, but the second you take your attention away it changes.

Most human brains do not have the power to comprehend the mastery of clockmanship nor the inner workings of electricity. Though I would think that the simple concepts of "1, 2, 3" and "Flip - On; Flip - Off" were easy enough to master.

Neither have ever been signs for me. I wonder, does a reality check involving a clock work for both digital and analog clocks? You look at the clock, turn away, and then look back and the digital clock has changed numbers or even symbols, and the analog clock has changed positions of its hands. You would think that remembering the numbers or positions would be easy enough, right? So its interesting to note that these are widespread, recognized dream signs.

the dream world can be very unstable.
Law abiding citizen by day, breaking the laws of reality by night.

Even though you don't know the exact time it is in reality, you still know that 3:45 doesn't come 5 minutes after 6:30. I would think that in dreams the clocks would still tell time they would just tell it at a different pace than in reality.

Still, people know that when you flip a switch up a light turns on and when you flip it off the light turns off. If everything in dreams had to be understood completely to work, most electrical devices wouldn't work for the average dreamer.

I think there's probably some universal psychological association with lights not working and clocks always showing a different time to a feeling or something. Just my theory though. Also, I've never had a dream where lights don't work for me. Not sure about the clock one, but I don't remember even looking at a clock in a dream.

Well, when your sleeping isn't the logic part of your brain "running on low"? That may explain why your brain doesn't know that five minutes after 5:00pm isn't 2:00am. My guess anyway.

Edit: Actually wait, I'm new to this LD stuff. When you go into a LD, does that part of your brain come back on? If so I imagine it would be hard to fly and stuff.

I could be wrong, but whenever I'm in a LD I feel like I have logic. I don't know if that explains why I've had a hard time flying in LD's though.
