"Light Switch" test - I failed MISERABLY!!

I'm checking out this kid's playset a woman has for sale out in her enclosed patio. The item is reasonably priced.

I see her in the house watching TV. It's dusk, kinda getting dark but still light out. There's a tall lamp in the porch - at the top is a florescent bulb, in the middle a regular tungsten bulb. They're both on. I figure she's wasting electricity so I turn it off - then realize that I can't really see as good now, so I go to turn the light back on. The florescent bulb flickers a couple times and goes out. I flip the other switch, the tungsten bulb just slowly glows and dims out.

DUH!!! The only think I could think was "oh, great, I broke this lady's lamp and she's gonna be pissed!"

To make things worse, I then look at the price tag again. Instead of the price it just has a picture of the lady and a little bio of her (what the?). So I figure there must be another price tag, right? Nope, so I look back at the bio with her picture -- but now it's a MAP OF FLORIDA???

This dream WANTED me to become aware!

Oh, well, guess I'll be a Lucid Beginner for a while longer... *sigh*

Wow, you're an idiot!

Just kidding, I do that a lot to. I played with my paintball gun that I just ordered that hasn't even come in yet and I said "Wait, this gun hasn't even came in yet!" so I went back to the table and got my other gun, if anyone's stupid its me.

I would not let it get you didcouraged Tornado Joe. Although that is a pretty funny dream.
It all has to do with a mind set I think and how it is relating in your dream.

I once got very frustrated & pissed at my sister while trying to explain the Idea of becoming Lucid. She couldn't grasp it. Apparently I could not either becuase it was a dream. Now that is a sad display of awareness.

Er... I tried turning on and off a light while I was lucid, and it, uh... worked. I was in a dark garage, too, so the lighting changed pretty significantly. Is this... normal? BTW, the clock reality test didn't work either. Good thing I was highly lucid!!!

It's amazing the things we will witness without realizing it's a dream. Last night in my dream I was in Wal-Mart, (who knows why) and all the digital camera's were around 20 dollars. Any self-repecting geek should have some serious alarms going off in their head when they notice this. However, I just thought it was a really good deal and continued to dream unenlightened.

Thanks for the encouragement, folks. It's good to know I'm not alone.

I think part of the problem is that I never thought much of those dream "giveaways" before anyways. The first time I even heard about light switches was in the movie Waking Life - and even then I thought that was just something they just put in the script. It wasn't until recently when I joined DV that I realized that the light switches and clock tests were true (except for cnthRyder's case).

Anyway, I just hope I can remember these things I'm learing in future dreams.

Joe, I think it is unfortunate, but with human nature we tend to go through the motions.
So if you were to try a RC or look at the clock or turn on a light switch during the day, I think we are most of the time 99% sure we are awake. This makes it hard to put emphasis on its validation while doing it. But if you do to the best of your ability this will carry over into your dreams.

I was sitting in a chair and it started floating off into the sky, I was like "What the hell? Wait... I must be dreaming! lets jump off of the chair and fly away!!!" "But what if i'm not dreaming? I'll fall to my death..." after a few seconds of debating in my mind, I decided to jump. I fell straight down and woke up as I hit the ground. I was pissed, but I got over it after a quick trip to my psychiatrist.

I read that a good test was to try and stick your finger through a wall....
so last week i was dreaming... and for some reason something seemed weird - and i thought i'd try it...
so i slowly put my finger up to the wall... but when i touched it, the wall crumbled away and left about a 6" hole!
i didn't understand what was happeneing.... so i tried it again in a different spot... same thing...
so i started running around my house trying it again and again.... and i was getting upset at myself for ruining the walls!
then i woke up! hahaha

[b]Aw C'MON!!! It freakin happened again!!

So there I am in a room watching TV - I think there's twoTV's and they're hooked up to a stereo. Anyway, I'm watching some porn (nothing that I do often, mind you) but it's late at night and I don't want to wake anybody up. But who the heck would I wake up, it's just me and my dog!!??

So, I keep trying to lower the volume on the sets, but the sound keeps "popping" back up. The more I try to quiet the TVs down, the louder they get. Finally, I turn off the stereo all together. The TV's get louder, so then I turn the TV's off -- but they keep switching back ON!!

I think this dream was just begging for me to become lucid -- damn it, I just couldn't make the connection between electronic devices failing in dreams at ALL!!

failed RCs

I had a rather amusing 'hmm... I'm flying on my chair... can that be real? <attempts to put fingre through palm> nope, didn't work... <eyes scenery> seems real enough. I must be awake. Odd that I never noticed that my chair could fly befo- OH NO, A TREE! <dodges and forgets all about it>

Yeah I fully know what you guys are all going through its sucks aye. Its like our minds are to set on the task at hand that when something strange happens we try an logicaly work around totaly forgeting its a dream sign. Maybe to much logic mind has come to the unconcouiss mind.
To focus on one state of mind always.

Awww DAG NABBIT!!! I had one of the most intense of tornado dreams last night, recognized it as a dreamsign right away, performed a reality check... and it FAILED!

I saw a string of about a dozen tornados lined up going down a main street and thought " Oh hell yeah, there's my tornados! This has GOT to be a dream!" - I must not have been completely sure because I decided to verify it by poking my index finger throught the palm of my other hand. When I felt my finger hit up against my palm (and not go through), I decided that it was probably some "glitch". So, I picked up a stick (kinda looked like one of them paint mixers you get when you buy paint). I even felt THAT strike up against my palm, but no penetratinon! ARGH!

Ah well, at least I enjoyed the scene for a while.

See, what I think is funny is all these RCs that work, or don't. If I ever became aware enough to do an RC, I wouldn't need to do it as I'd realize I was dreaming. Dreamsigns work WAY better for me..

Did that make sense? In other words, if think you're dreaming and do an RC, chances are you're already partially lucid... lucid enough to do an RC!

I have yet to do an RC. My RC is usually a dreamsign.. where I think I'm dreaming, decide to test the waters, and when I walk up to the hot nanny and start groping her and she doesn't resist.. lol then I start rubbing my hands and doittoit. lol!
Only the cinders remain as another night becomes a yesterday...
