what does death in dreams mean?

just curious... im 20 years old, i have died 3 times in my dreams. they were always gang related shooting deaths... its weird stuff... i watch myself die and i wake up "WHOA". i am not a violent person, and i have never been in or plan on being in a gang either... just wondering what dying in dreams might mean, or in my case, what the hell is wrong with me

ps. very informative site, i think ive lucid dreamed once or twice before, hope i can do it more often!

When I was a little kid, I heard from several people that if you die in a dream, you don\'t ever wake up. Needless to say, the thought of this terrified me. To this day, when I die in the process of a dream I immediately wake up in a cold sweat.

Most recently I died as the result of being very near a nuclear blast. I was standing in my grandparents\' front yard talking to some old man, and saw several incoming missiles in the sky. A few then fired off from nearby Sandpoint Naval Air Base [a long defunct naval station here in seattle] to interdict the incoming missiles, but missed. I thought, "Oh shit." Then, I was torn apart in a massive blast of heat and light.

      It was very unpleasant.

A friend of mine tells me he dies in his dreams very frequently, often in very gruesome ways (most recently: torn to pieces by the living dead). It doesn't seem to bother him, although I wonder what it could mean.

Yes, its happened to me many times. All the times i've been killed I have been eaten alive. It's a horrible exeperience. ewverytime it happened i was paralyzed and cuoldnt do anythign while they ate away at my legs first then they gradually went up some more. I've always gotten eaten by Dinosaurs (those raptors things), A shark (this was horrible as i have a terrible fear of them), and alligators, wolfs, and other made-up monsters. These i consider noghtmares. and what makes it WORSE is that all of those dreams with the monsters i mentioned that when i died i would just start at the beginning of the dream again and i would have to deal with the whole ordeal again and be eaten alive in the same way!!! It was like a video game of where i had an endless death, but thankly i havent been eaten alive for some time now.

well, about a month ago i died by being sucked into a big black electrical sphere while killing this creepy guy (who had been stalking me for some unknown reason for two months worth of dreams) who was causing the apocalypse. (not sure how to spell that)
But that's just part of my cycle. About one year cycle.
So, not all dream deaths have to do with anxieties. Mines just on a schedule.

Then again, i've always been the acception to rules.
Why is it that when i am holding all of the cards, everyone else decided to play chess?
