Human monitoring of Rem sleep (the clinical way)

      Hello every body.

I am wondering about inducing lucidity with an external trigger (flashing light, specific perfume, soft vibration, sound ....) during REM sleep.
But the "computational" process of the REM stage detection (usually done by an electronic device such as the Nova dreamer), would be here done by a human (let say a friend), during a "sleep session" (let say a nap).

Have you ever tried to organize a session like that with a friend?http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y23...sereneworx.gif
Before attempting this way with friends, I would appreciate to collect some feedback or ideas for the organisation, if some of you have already tried to implicate a third person in your attempt.

      i think it is:
      - easy to organize a nap when really tired (The watcher won't have to wait you to fall asleep)
      - easy to learn a reflex such as "every time i smell this odor, i do a reality check"
      - easy for a human standing with you during your nap, to determine if you are in REM sleep or not (I forget to say: you must paint your eyelids with a fluorescent color before sleeping so that the movement of your closed eyes will be observable from outside.)http://static3.dreamviews.org/smilies/poke.gif

Thank you all to be here (and please forgive my english ...)

I tried something like this with my sister. Her eyelids weren't moving very quickly but they were moving. I whispered that she was in a dream and to try to fly, and she breathed heavily for a bit. I told her to wake up and tell me all about her dream. When I said wake up, her eyes almost instantly opened. Creepy, but it's a start.

It is a good start thought ! Has she heard you from her dream when you told her to fly?
I haven't tested that configuration yet (because i don't want bother my friends before i am more confident in the method) but i am thinking also of doing something with the sense of balance. I am not sure of where i found this information, but it seems that modifying the perception of balance during sleep (with a rocking movement) affects directly the dream content. I was thinking of using a hammock for instance.

I think its a great idea. I'm not into painting my eyelids though.
For me, i would paint any part of my body if it could help achieving a lucid dream ....

No, when I asked her about it she said she didn't remember any dreams.
