am i a lucid dreamer? my dreamz have always been that way....info needed.

Hi everyone, i've been "lucid" dreaming since i was little but only just today clicked on a link to lucid dreaming and realised that my dreams are different to normal dreaming.....

I'v often had conversations about dreams with friends and family and found it odd that
      1. some people dont dream
      2. some dont remember their dreams and
      3. cannot control their dreams or are aware that they are dreaming.

Whereas my dreams or nightmares on a nightly basis for as long as i can remember have always been vivid and i remember most of them. I also know that i am dreaming and can do what i like knowing its not real. It started with flying, when i was younger. Then i remember i was drowning in one dream then realised it was a dream and started to breathe under water. Since then, if im ever under water, i just breathe and have no fear. I go on adventures and do allsorts of things. Just befor i go to sleep i think of what i want to dream and usually thats where i end up.

On the other hand I also have really bad nightmares where i am aware they are not real but the more i think about where i dont want it to go, it turns in that direction. Occasionally in the nightmares i can overcome them and change the direction.

I do also have dreams where i dont realise its a dream but not as often. i also have recurring dreamz and sometimes dream the same dream for 3 weeks in a row, gets a bit boring, one particular dream i have been having for years in the 3 week slots every few months, this is a dream i am aware of dreaming and i have to get out of a terrorist hostage situation with lots of people, i am the leader and i get a step further every time by remembering what i did the last time and figuring out what to do next. i'v had it so many times i remember every detail, the only thing different is the location. sometimes a cruise ship, sometimes a hospital or a hotel or a big building in a desert but its pretty much the same dream continued.

i could go on and on because i'v had these dreams for so long and at first i was excited to go to sleep knowing i could do this but sometimes its tiring because a whole nights sleep can feel like an epic adventure and i wake up and its like i havnt had a rest.

anyway, like i say up til now this was just simply dreaming to me, could anyone tell me if this is actually lucid dreaming? is there any way to stop it? i need a good nights sleep, my dreams are too vivid and detailed and long and repetative. the nightmares can be so frightening.... i took sleeping pills for a couple of weeks once and i dont think it happened then, i wasnt aware of my dreams and couldnt remember them, had some good sleep for a change!!

any info would be appreciated. or anyone with similar experiences.....

      thank you.

you are very lucky, that is indeed lucid dreaming.

i would recommend this book by robert waggoner, Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self:
Amazon.com: Lucid Dreaming: Gateway to the Inner Self (9781930491144): Robert Waggoner: Books

i bet by basically asking your dreams to let you rest, asking them what they want, and directly addressing the dream characters you could let up on the intensity.

i wish i had this problem!
