      Was this a dream?

i found out about lucid dreaming 3 days ago and have very interested in the subject. The last 2 nights i have been trying to get my dream recall up and the wbtb technique works very good for me.. last night i was kind of half asleep and half awake yet after i opened my eyes i remembered something that must of been a dream because it was nothing that i wud of ever thought up in my mind.. it involved being chased by a slug/snake with giant teeth... but i wasnt actually asleep/awake when this was hapeening i was just kind of relaxing and i cud suddenly recall the whole thing very vividly

If you were doing a WBTD method, you most likely did a form of WILD. You were probably on the borderline of consciousness.

Where you aware that you were asleep and dreaming? Where you able to think, comprehend, act, and control your breathing? - If you answered yes to all of those, you were in a Full Lucid Dream.

It appears that what you were experiencing was Hynogogic images. -or- You were actually entering the dream state, very close to Lucidity.

Generally, when you wake up in the night, and remember a dream, and focus on it, depending on where you were in your sleep cycle, you can begin to recall you dream very vividly, or even enter back into your dream. This is actually a type of lucid induction.

Sounds like you were on the right track to a WILD. Usually with WILD, before you become lucid, you will watch a serious of images, or the beginning of a dream -or- where a dream left off. You are at the border of awake/asleep. You arent really sure whats what, or what state you are in.
