      Morning Dream/Reality mix up

In the mornings, my girlfriend always calls me at about 7:40am before she goes to work (I don't have to get up for work till a bit later ). However, when we're talking, I sometimes find myself falling in and out of sleep, but the sleep seems like reality. This results in me sometimes awaiting an answer from my girlfiend, when I have only asked the question in my sleep, or answering a question in reality, that has been asked by her in my sleep. Sometimes the conversation continues in my dream, only for me to wake up to "are you there?" or sometimes silence.

The dreams I have during this period feel ridiculously real, so much that it is sometimes hard to determine when I have actually dozed off, and when I am actually talking to my girlfriend in reality.

If I could induce this same dream/reality feeling (preferably not when talking to/annoying my girlfriend!), is this the first step to possibily inducing a lucid dream, or is this just me being lazy in the morning?

      Cheers

It's not lucid unless you are aware you are dreaming, ok.

You know, the same thing happens to me but with texts instead of voice calls. I'm not really sure how it would be classified, but to me it feels much like a false awakening. Start reality checking during these calls and maybe you can get yourself an easy LD.

Cheers for the replies. I know it's not a lucid, but the sense of reality that I dream of feels so real. I agree with you Ryan that it's probably best described as a false awakening. What I would like to do though, is get into this dream/reality state and become lucid. The reality checks would deffo be useful, I just need to find a way of replicating this state without getting my girlfriend to call me in the morning to do it!

As much as that would be great, Parny, I think you will agree with me that, however realistic it may feel, it is an instable state of sleep. It would be much better if you would achieve the necessary steps toward Lucid Dreaming in the traditional way, in your sleep, or in naps in the afternoon.
Now, about your state, I don't think it is necessary a false awakening. You simply dozed off, and, as it works in naps, you jumped directly into the R.E.M period. Although, by dozing off, that also means that you are partly awake, so that your dreaming is influenced by the things happening around you. More than normally, that is. Although you're open to not believe me, there's no science behind my arguments, just basic things I picked up from my own experiences, and, such as they are, they could be wrong. Although I strongly believe they're correct.

Cheers for the info Kamus. I'll probs not be following up on it, I was just a little intrigued as it only really started happening recently and has been pretty consistent in occuring.

On the other hand though, I am really interested in experimenting with outside influences whilst asleep.
