Starting to practice DILD and MILD...

Im not to interested in WILD since I feel that it would result in a more restless sleep, which I cannot afford right now. Started my dream Journal last night. I fell asleep telling myself to remember my dream when I woke up. I woke up once in the middle of the night, and wrote down 1 dream. It was a dream I could control but I didn't realize I was dreaming while I was in it, so I was not lucid. After I went back to sleep I woke up in the morning without being able to remember any more then that 1 dream.

      Also: How does WBTB work?

Hello and welcome to DV, Artemis.

WBTB is used with the WILD method and works like this: You go to sleep as normally, only to be woken up after four-six (could be more/less, depends on the person) hours by an alarm/other method. You get out of bed and do things until you hit the stage were you're not so awake that you can't fall asleep but you're not so tired that you'll drop off instantly. Once you think you've hit that, go back to bed. Try performing a WILD and your chances of success should skyrocket as you should be in the middle of a REM cycle. You might want to have a look at and try this variant of WILDing (FILD), as some people have induced a lucid in under a minute with it.

Good luck and feel free to message me if you have any more questions!

Thanks for explaining that, and sorry I suddenly left chat the other day I had to go (lol). Im also trying to practice ADA and RC's regularly. Although I find it hard to concentrate on it and dont always remember to stay fully aware.
How come I could only remember one dream, even though I definitely had more after that? And how did I not realize I was dreaming even though I had a loose control over my dream. The dream felt perfectly natural like normal life, but now that I look back on it, it seems ridiculous.

      The dream:
I was going snowboarding with a bunch of people from work, and we had to catch a bus to the mountain. I cant recall how I got there but I was standing outside of my office waiting with them when the bus pulled up. When the bus got there I realized I didnt have any of my gear with me, and I had to run home to get it while I asked the bus to wait. Suddenly I appeared at what felt like home, but after I remember it being a strange apartment that I've never seen before. I looked out the window to check that the bus didn't leave (it was still there, co-workers getting anxious), which was weird because my house is a good 20min drive from my office. I felt like I had to use the bathroom so I spawned a toilet in the middle of the room, and a group of people walked in while I was going, I freaked out and woke up. From there I wrote it down and went back to bed.

Actualy candle is wrong. WBTB isn't used only with WILD. It's used with MIlD and also just to generally increase your chance to become lucid.
He described WBTB right, but instead of doing a WILD you just go back to sleep thinking about LDing.

My bad. However, I'm pretty sure that the majority of people who practice WBTB use it in conjuction with WILD as opposed to MILD. Or, at least, the majority of WILDers (is that even a term?) use it.

WBTB is a technique in itself-- it's basically an add on to any technique, it's used to increase effenciency of MIlD, WILD and DILD.

And yeah I think WIlDer Is a word lol.

You don't automatically remember dreams. Dream memory seems to work differently from regular memory. In most cases you forget about dreams after they end. If you are making a conscious effort to remember dreams before going to bed and then journaling anything you remember in the morning you should get better. I went from nothing to 4-5 dreams a week like that. I know I have a problem with stress and recall, but such is the life of a college student.

On the weekends I tend to wake up after 5 or so hours of sleep, and occasionally remember dreams from that time. I then go back to sleep, and if I'm lucky I will remember one or two more dream fragments. I actually wake up after every REM cycle automatically, or wake up directly from the dream if it was lucid (I have problems with stability.)

As for your second question, you don't need to be lucid to control your dream. People have dreams about doing impossible things all the time. If you can control your dreams while lucid why not while you're not lucid? When you're dreaming you are in control, whether you know it or not.
