      Dream signs

For the past three days, I have been writing a dream journal. Something I see which goes around in all of my dreams is that I always talk with people. So, should I as a result of this make a reality check routine where I do reality cheks each time I talk to someone?

A reality check is usually done when you've gone Lucid. That is to say, that you've become aware within your dream that you're actually dreaming- or are you? The life-like feeling of a LD is so profound, that a reality check is often conducted to see whether you're actually dreaming or not.

On the other hand, a sign, is a cue to help you attain Lucidity within a dream. Let's say that you've been suggesting to yourself each night before going to sleep, that the next time you float, fly or just see something out of the ordinary- will be the sign to wake you up within the dream. If that happens, and you recognize it, Lucidity is imminent.

There's plenty of great info regarding these subjects in the Tutortorial section. I greatly recommend getting familiar with some of these basics.

      Happy dreaming.

reality checks can actually be used to attain lucidity...if you do them through-out the day, at certain points of your choosing, they eventually make their way into your dreams.

actually, dream signs are exactly what they imply, signs that you're dreaming. what you do is, record your dreams for a certain period of time (let's say a couple of weeks, with at least one dream per night). eventually you may see some things that happen quite often in your dreams, and whatever it is, you do a reality check whenever it happens. I suppose your dream sign *could* be talking to people...but I think it'd be better if you found something that didn't happen quite so frequently? something a little more unique?

Well, why do a reality check of a pattern that is unique and doesnt come too frequently in your dreams? Isnt the point of seeing the main structure of your dreams, then do a RC for it, so you can have as many LD's as possible?

Lets say I did a RC each time I picked up a flower, which I never do, then I wouldnt recognize that until I actually pick up a flower in my dreams, which according to my journals never happen.

that's not what I meant. I meant find something IN your journal, that DOES happen quite a bit, but maybe not THAT often. it might get a little annoying doing an RC every time you talk with people. do you see what I mean now?

Yeah. Thats true, but for some of us, our dreams really don't have something that always happens and it out of the ordinary. I've been writing a dream journal for OVER a month and I have quite good dream recall, which means in just one month I have almost 100 dreams. In 100 dreams there is nothing that is constant enough to be a dream sign. Tons of out of the ordinary things happen, but none of them are related, so I would be limited to do a RC everytime something weird happens, which isnīt that often in real life.

What I suggest Vinje is that you do a RC (reality check) everytime you walk through a door for example. For some people, that won't happen sooo many times. Maybe a lot of times, but you don't have to necessarily do it each and every time, just try to keep it in mind and hopefully develop an association between doors and RCs. You coould look for something else that you don't do all the time but will most probably do in your dreams. Maybe everytime you look at your watch or each time you walk outside.
